    Sunderland 1-1 West Ham

The Black Cats looked buoyed by that goal.

Even right-back Billy Jones is popping up on the edge of the box, although his shot doesn't trouble Darren Randolph.

Jones then clatters Manuel Lanzini as the West Ham man looks to break away at the other end. Crunching tackle, that. But fair.

Why is there no West Ham player defending the back post? Ridiculous.

Victor Anichebe stands in front of Darren Randolph and prevents him from coming to claim the corner, but to be honest the keeper needs to work harder to get past the striker or else stand elsewhere on the goalline.

You have to say Sunderland deserve that.

They've gone looking for an equaliser and Wahbi Khazri has definitely made a difference to David Moyes' side on his return.

The tricky winger won the corner in the first place with a dangerous run along the byline, and then scored straight from it.

Well, you don't see that very often! Such whip and curl on the ball, and maybe the wind influenced it, and the ball actually went in off the base of the far post. What an effort from Wahbi Khazri - what a goal that was!

    Well, how about that!

Wahbi Khazri whips in a corner with his right foot from the left and it curls all the way through, beyond Darren Randolph and into the far top corner.

Sunderland score for the first time in eight games!

Well, Sunderland are getting the ball into just as many dangerous areas as West Ham, the difference is the hosts' final ball has been lacking on every occasion.

Jermain Defoe cuts a frustrated figure as twice in quick succession passes are cut out before they reach the diminutive forward.

Wahbi Khazri then pulls a free-kick back to the edge of the box for Darron Gibson, but leaves the former Everton and Manchester United man having to scramble to get a foot on it and his shot, off balance, flies a long way wide.

  8. CLOSE!published at 22 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Lovely, patient build-up play from the Hammers as they knock the ball about through midfield and eventually work it to Robert Snodgrass.

He shifts it onto his dangerous left foot and whips one goalwards from the edge of the area, but it curls narrowly wide of Jordan Pickford's near post.

  9. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Jason Denayer seemed to mould into David Luiz for a moment there, waltzing his way out from the back with the ball at his feet.

The powerful Sunderland centre half gives it to Javier Manquillo well inside the West Ham half, but his cross is overhit and the attack fizzles out.

West Ham are enjoying a bit of possession, getting control of the football and taking the sting out of the game. The Hammers are doing that brilliantly at the moment.

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Just over quarter of an hour in and for the first time the games settles down for a moment.

West Ham knock it around at the back, they're happy to make Sunderland work for the ball now they've earned a lead.

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Sunderland's goal-scoring woes have been well documented, but David Moyes has definitely set them up to go on the attack this afternoon.

Jermain Defoe, Victor Anichebe and Wahbi Khazri are all bombing forward at every opportunity.

The trouble for the hosts is, West Ham look pretty dangerous on the counter.

I'd fancy there to be a few more goals in this one.

That is a really good touch and finish from Andre Ayew, but Sunderland gave Sam Byram so much space to cross the ball.

He had all the time in the world to pop that ball in, whereas if you're defending a side playing Andy Carroll up front you must cut off the crosses.

In the end it was a sloppy goal to concede.

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Sunderland go chasing an equaliser immediately. And it's Jermain Defoe who looks desperate to carry them forward.

He helps the Black Cats win a free-kick about 40 yards from goal, Wahbi Khazri dinks it in and John O'Shea gets a head to it.

It's a pretty weak effort from the captain though. On target, but no bother for Darren Randolph.

  15. goal

GOAL - Ayew opens the scoringpublished at 5 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Well, it's been an absolutely frantic start to proceedings at the Stadium of Light and Sunderland find themselves behind.

The ball falls to West Ham skipper Andy Carroll inside the area and he scuffs an effort across goal, with Andre Ayew the first to react and prod it past Jordan Pickford.

West Ham have got Andy Carroll up front, and of course he's capable of scoring aerially at any time. I have a funny feeling there will be a fair few goals here today. And such a positive start from Sunderland, which is just what David Moyes will want.

Mind you, that booking of Lee Cattermole within the first 60 seconds isn't ideal...

  18. CLOSE!published at 2 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 West Ham

What a start to this one.

Manuel Lanzini lines up the free-kick from just outside the Sunderland box and forces a low save from Jordan Pickford.

The England under-21 international got down well to push it clear from danger.

Well, Sunderland haven't scored for seven games but they go straight on the attack through Jermain Defoe.

Andre Ayew then breaks away for the visitors and Lee Cattermole is forced to bring him down on the edge of the Black Cats' box.

That's a booking inside 50 seconds for the Sunderland midfielder.
