A ripple of applause breaks out as David Silva climbs from the bench to warm up. How long before we see the Spaniard on the pitch?

A very flat first half from Manchester City. Too many misplaced passes from the home side, and too few shots at goal - just one on target and three in total, the other two were blocked.

While Pep Guardiola's game plan has not got going, Stoke’s has worked a treat. They are disciplined in defence, fast breaking forward and have had some decent chances too.

There's an awful long way to go in this but if it stays like this then Manchester City are staying third in the table - and Chelsea's lead at the top will remain 10 points with 11 games to go.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was not very happy with the one extra minute added at the end of the first half. He made the point to the fourth official that Mame Biram Dirouf's treatment for one injury alone took about three times that. 

Still, at least he can have a word with his players now. I think he might have something to say to them too after that display.

Terrific by Stoke. Not so much so by Manchester City.

Kevin De Bruyne spins and turns behind Bruno Martins Indi. He has a clear sight of goal. Is this the moment all of Stoke's hard work goes flying out of the window? No! De Bruyne can't make clean contact and Stoke survive a big scare.

This hasn't been a great game but Stoke won't care. They're putting on a committed performance full of hard work and desire.

Phil Bardsley is a little too enthusiastic. He has already been booked and goes in on Fernandinho with his studs showing.

Manchester City need a spark and there is no sign of it at the moment. David Silva is on the bench - you have to think he will be on the pitch for the second half if the home side continue like this.

Stoke, meanwhile, are growing in confidence. They seem to be quicker to every loose ball and are pressing in the home half now, rather than just defending deep and in numbers.

A Stoke free-kick is whipped into the Manchester City area but is only cleared as far as Mame Biram Diouf whose first time attempt sails well over.  

Stoke haven't read the script. They were 3-0 down at this stage in their last away game at Tottenham but Mark Hughes has returned to the Etihad with a plan - and it's working a treat so far.

Pep Guardiola is looking perplexed. This isn't the Manchester City he is used to seeing - they're slow, sluggish and have hardly got out of second gear. Where's Sergio Aguero? Kevin de Bruyne is also struggling to get into this.

Signs that Manchester City are coming to life.

Moments before Kolarov's free-kick, Mame Biram Diouf produced an excellent sliding challenge to deny Leroy Sane a scoring chance after a powerful run into the area.

Sergio Aguero has hardly threatened but he wins his side a free-kick just outside the area after being tripped by Phil Bardsley, who is booked.

Up steps Aleksandar Kolarov 25 yards out and it requires Lee Grant to beat away his stinging attempt. That's Manchester City's first serious attempt.

It's taken 25 minutes.
