Dreadful by Gaston Ramirez who tries to con the referee into a penalty after flinging himself to the ground inside the area. It's a clear dive and the Boro player gets a deserved yellow card for his theatrics. Bournemouth fans are not shy at letting Ramirez know what they think.

    Better from Boro.

Uruguay's Gaston Ramírez almost finds Alvaro Negredo loitering on the edge of the six-yard box with a hanging cross.

Boro will take any positive they can at this stage.

Barely had the applause honouring Ugo Ehiogu died down than the home fans were cheering an early goal. Middlesbrough, playing with three central defenders, have been pressed so far back by Bournemouth's movement for much of the early stages that it almost looks like they're fielding a flat back five.

"That's why you're going down," the Bournemouth faithful chanted after Joshua King's 11th goal in 13 games. Boro's fans, squinting into the sunshine, are having to put a brave face on it.

Bournemouth are dominating. It will come as no surprise to regular watchers of Middlesbrough that they have been unable to carve out an opening. The story of their season.

  7. 'Long trip for Boro'published at 15:08 British Summer Time 22 April 2017

It will have been an early start this morning for many Boro fans - some of whom, having been handed a 324-mile trip to the south coast in late April by the fixture computer, may have decided to make a weekend of it.

If they were hoping for sunshine, blue skies and the occasional white fluffy cloud, they won't be disappointed. But a nervy 90 minutes is in prospect, which will decide whether the travelling Teessiders go out to celebrate a vital win tonight - or drown a few sorrows as relegation moves a step closer.

    Bournemouth 1-0 Middlesbrough

Bournemouth - and Marc Pugh - are running the show in the opening exchanges.

Pugh is being afforded far too much space down the wing and his 250th league appearance for the Cherries is turning into one to remember.

    Middlesbrough have not turned up.

Awful start by Middlesbrough who have started slowly and find themselves behind after 96 seconds.

Marc Pugh had already glided past Antonio Barragan as though he wasn't there when he drills the ball into the area and Joshua King fires home from close range.

    Far too easy.

Ugo Ehiogu is being honoured at Bournemouth with a minute's applause before kick-off.

Ehiogu died at the age of 44 on Friday, after suffering a cardiac arrest at Tottenham's training centre on Thursday.

He spent seven years at Middlesbrough and helped the club win the League Cup in 2004.

His name is being chanted by Boro's travelling support.

Middlesbrough's mascot has just been interviewed over the public address as kick-off approaches. And fair to say, the little lad's not optimistic.

    Favourite player? "Adama Traore".

    Score prediction? "3-1 to Bournemouth".

Middlesbrough are still saying the right things, external about staying up, but it looks bleak for them now and there's no hint of a remarkable recovery in the air.

They haven't won in the league since just before Christmas and are without a victory from any of their last 15 away games.

Injuries will curtail Jack Wilshere's career, one of potentially England's top players. There was a period when people were hoping he'd become a Paul Scholes or Steven Gerrard, but that is now not going to happen.

It's like his body is not capable of dealing with the impact of the modern game. The style of football he plays, he often tangles with opposition players - and too often the result is that he's not available for selection.

While Middlesbrough sit six points short of safety, Bournemouth are perched seven points above it and should be fine.

Recent results haven't been great though and Boro's often chance-starved forwards will have noted that Bournemouth have conceded at least two goals in seven of the last eight games on the south coast.

    Bournemouth v Middlesbrough (15:00 BST)

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport at Vitality Stadium

Back in April 1987, these two teams were going head-to-head for the old Third Division title. Harry Redknapp's Cherries had never been above the third tier in their history, while Bruce Rioch's Boro - began the campaign on the verge of bankruptcy, having been locked out of Ayresome Park and forced to play their first home game at Hartlepool.

Boro's side included future Premier League stars in Gary Pallister, Stuart Ripley, Colin Cooper and Brian Laws, while Bernie Slaven was their main goal threat. But although the Teessiders won eight of their last nine games to earn promotion, the unfancied Cherries pipped them to the title by three points.

Today's match programme unsurprisingly recalls the 1986-87 run-in - with ex-Bournemouth striker Trevor Aylott explaining how a duel with Pallister left him with 13 stitches in his forehead, and forced him to wear a headband that became his trademark.
