It was a needless challenge by Marvin Bartley on Andy Stirling on the edge of the Hibernian 18 yard box leaving referee Gavin Duncan with a straightforward decision in awarding the penalty. Christian Nade gave Ofir Marciano no chance.

Will this goal spur the home side into action? Hibernian have been dreadful so far.

Jason Naismith fires a low cross across the face of the Caley Thistle goal and Alex Schalk just fails to get a touch on the ball for what would surely have been an opening goal.

What a chance for Motherwell! Scott McDonald uses his guile and nous to swivel in the box and tee-up the onrushing Chris Cadden. The midfielder blazes his shot high into the stand from 12 yards. Opportunity squandered.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0-0 Ross County

Caley Thistle's Iain Vigurs is left in pain after his own miss-timed tackle on Tim Chow and the midfielder has to limp off. It looks like he will be replaced with Liam Polworth but hobbles on.

It's another chance for Kilmarnock, another for Kris Boyd who has space on the right hand side of the box, only to blast his shot over the bar. 

At the other end, Chris Erskine sends a reminder that if the hosts don't take one of their chances then Partick Thistle could hit them with a sucker punch; skipping past his man and whistling a strike past the post.

There's action aplenty at both ends at Fir Park, as Craig Clay comes close to levelllng for Motherwell. His half-volley from the edge of the box ricochets off a defender and rolls kindly into the arms of Zander Clark.

A pretty dreadful opening half hour... The home side with lots of possession but Dumbarton look very well organised at the back with very little space for the Hibernian strike force of Holt and Keatings.

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has more time to turn in the box than he knew and the frustration is evident on his face as he rushes a shot wide of the target from the close range.

This is as competitive as you'd expect but perhaps both sides are that touch too eager.

Both are trying to get the ball forward early, looking to exploit space, but they're not quite connecting with the forwards.

Iain Vigurs has had the only shot that's troubled either keeper but that doesn't represent the nature of this tussle.

Jason Holt cannot keep his shot down and the Rangers midfielder's wait for his first goal since September continues.

Scott McDonald crumples under a challenge in the Saints box - the home fans appeal loudly, but referee Greg Aitken is unmoved.

Ross Draper is so fired up that the Caley Thistle midfielder takes out one of the advertising hoardings after sending a far-post header on to the roof of the County net.

The big Englishman is on the verge of a 50th yellow card for Caley Thistle. That's one in every four appearances.
