    Sunderland 0-0 Bournemouth

Joshua King has been in terrific form in 2017, in fact he's scored two more goals this year than Sunderland's entire team.

The Norwegian gets an early snap shot in here but it is tame and straight into the hands of Jordan Pickford.

  2. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Bournemouth

Lamine Kone clears and Sunderland finally manage to get their foot on the ball.

  3. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Bournemouth

Less than 60 seconds in and Sunderland are already in serious danger.

Following a corner, Charlie Daniels is able to ghost into the left side of the box and put in a low, dangerous cross but the returning Donald Love cuts it out.

It's all Bournemouth so far as they win another corner.

Just to confirm here are the scenarios that could see Sunderland relegated today.

    • If they lose to Bournemouth and Hull avoid defeat at Southampton
    • If they draw with Bournemouth and Hull win at Southampton
    • The Black Cats' relegation could also be confirmed on Sunday, if they lose today and Swansea beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Those are two interesting views on David Moyes' future from Garth and Jason (see below).

Sunderland may have had many problems in recent years, both on the pitch and behind the scenes, but an increasing level of justified criticism has been aimed towards Moyes in recent weeks.

The fans have began to voice their frustrations, will we see more of that today?

Anyway the teams are out, kick off is moments away.

  7. 'Moyes has not had a great few years'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

    Sunderland v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Garth Crooks
Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"I think Moyes stays even if they go down. Look at what happened at Burnley with Sean Dyche. When they've come back up, they have stabilised.

"David Moyes has not had a great few years. Manchester United was a difficult time. His time in Spain was even more difficult.

"He is trying to restore his credibility but he is trying to do so with a difficult team. The Sunderland owners should take the opportunity to stabilise and let them fight.

"One area I would criticise Moyes is that he doesn’t exude confidence and that may have been his downfall this season - it's always glass half-empty for him.

"If they can keep this squad together and allow Moyes to rebuild and stabilise, they may be favourites to come back up the following season.

"They just need to hold their nerve and not panic if they do go down."

Sunderland usually save their best form for the last few games of the season with miraculous escapes in recent seasons.

But there has been no upturn in form this season.

David Moyes' side have not won since beating Crystal Palace in February, their only victory in their past 16 games.

Main man Jermain Defoe - who Sunderland have relied on so heavily this season - has not found the back of the net for 14 hours and 15 minutes.

  9. 'We will not be underestimating Sunderland'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

Sunderland may looked doomed but Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is not underestimating his opponents and has his eyes on the 40-point target.

"It is difficult to have sympathy with an opposition manager until after the game as the focus is so much on your team," Howe said.

"We would love to get over 40 points this weekend, that is the one every one talks about, then we can move on from there.

"We will not be underestimating Sunderland. I have seen many amazing things in football, so our mentality has to be to go out against a tough side fighting for their lives."

  10. 'Sunderland don’t have the quality to stay in this league'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

    Sunderland v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Jason Roberts
Former West Brom striker on Final Score

“It’s a difficult choice whether to keep David Moyes if they go down.

"If you look at where their problems lie, it’s not at managerial level – it’s at the ownership, level in my opinion.

"If they sack him, I don’t think it will be hard for him to get another job because he has a good CV as a manager.

"If they sack him it should only be to get someone in who has a better understanding of managing in the Championship level.

"Sunderland don’t have the quality to stay in this league and I think it’s due to a lack of good decisions at the board level."

  11. Long-term plan needed at Sunderland - Moyespublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

Sunderland manager David Moyes still believes - well, sort of.

He says his side will keep fighting but also has one eye set on the future.

"While we still have a chance, we will keep fighting," Moyes said. "We want a winning momentum and we want to rediscover that winning feeling.

"A long-term plan is definitely needed for this football club. Unfortunately, a lot of people want to talk about it but they don't actually want to see that this is the way it has to happen.

"But we will put it in place. There are a lot of things done behind the scenes we are trying to improve on."

David Moyes is forced into making four changes to his Sunderland team that lost at Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Jason Denayer, Lee Cattermole and Darron Gibson were all fitness doubts and do indeed miss out while Billy Jones is also injured. Lamine Kone, Donald Love, Steven Pienaar and Fabio Borini come in.

Sunderland XI: Pickford, Manquillo, O'Shea, Kone, Love, Ndong, Khazri, Pienaar, Borini, Defoe, Anichebe.

Subs: Mannone, Djilobodji, Lescott, Honeyman, Embleton, Januzaj, Gooch.

Eddie Howe makes just the one change from Bournemouth's thumping win over Middlesbrough last weekend with Dan Gosling out with a calf injury - he is replaced by Lewis Cook.

Bournemouth XI: Boruc, Adam Smith, Francis, Steve Cook, Daniels, Fraser, Arter, Lewis Cook, Pugh, King, Afobe.

Subs: Gradel, Brad Smith, Stanislas, Allsop, Mings, Mousset, Ibe.

    Sunderland v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

Yes, good afternoon and welcome along to this live text of Sunderland against Bournemouth.

This is how the bottom of the Premier League looks. The Black Cats' lives will run out if they fail to match the result of Hull City - who are away at Southampton - this afternoon.

A positive result for Sunderland would surely just prolong their fate for another week.

Bournemouth on the other hand are all but safe in the comfortable position of 13th and could break the 40-point barrier with a win today.

    Is this the end?

After 10 consecutive seasons Sunderland could be relegated from the Premier League today.

They have looked in deep trouble all season - in fact David Moyes has told us as much - but today could be the day.

Will it be? Let's find out.
