It's all over at Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United have beaten Coventry, so we shall bid you farewell for the evening.

Newcastle went top of the Championship, Huddersfield kept the automatic promotion race alive and Sheffield United were made to wait to secure their spot in the second tier.

And there was plenty to talk about along the way!

Thanks for joining us. Our next EFL live text commentary is on Friday, when Brighton travel to QPR. Hope you can join us then.

    Championship

    League TableImage source, BBC Sport

The only movement in the Championship comes in the top four, where there's been a little bit of leapfrogging.

Newcastle clamber above Brighton at the very top by a point, and their goal difference looks healthy too as it rises to plus-40.

Huddersfield too get the jump on Reading, with a game in hand, as they sit nine points behind second-placed Brighton in the race for an automatic promotion place.

    Sheffield United 2-0 Coventry

Sheffield United are close to victory over Coventry - they're into four minutes of added time at Bramall Lane.

Fleetwood's win at Oxford this evening means the Blades still need three more points to be sure of promotion from League One.

They could get those on Saturday. Where are they? Northampton. Who are, of course, Chris Wilder's former club.

That could be an interesting afternoon.

    Newcastle 1-0 Burton

Matt Ritchie's goal settles this game for Newcastle against a spirited Burton, but much of the post-match talk will be centered around a disallowed penalty in the first half.

It was a flat encounter up to the point where Ritchie had slotted his kick beyond Burton goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin - but a blast of the whistle by referee Keith Stroud brought any joy to an abrupt end. The "goal" was disallowed and a free-kick awarded to Burton, much to the anger of the crowd.

Rafael Benitez's side eventually responded in the right way, with a goal of quality from Ritchie who cut in from the left and curled a beauty beyond McLaughlin to give Newcastle all three points and top spot in the table.

Burton offered their best, but never truly threatened. Newcastle weren't at their best either, but their promotion bid rumbles on.

    Leon Clarke (70 mins)

Promotion may not come tonight, but Sheffield United may have a win to celebrate!

Leon Clarke scores against his old club to move the league leaders closer to the Championship and send bottom side Coventry closer to the drop.

  8. Fleetwood extend lead at Oxfordpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Oxford 1-3 Fleetwood

Surely game over at the Kassam Stadium, where David Ball has given Fleetwood a 3-1 lead at Oxford.

Stand down, Sheffield United. Maybe at the weekend, but sadly you'll have to wait until the weekend at least for your celebrations to begin.

    Newcastle 1-0 Burton

Lucas Akins has come off and Lloyd Dyer has come on for Burton. Nigel Clough's substitutes combined to give him a 96th-minute winner at Huddersfield on Saturday... can he work the magic again?

They'll need two to overhaul Newcastle, who look comfortable with 10 minutes or so to go.

  10. Champers on ice for Bladespublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Oxford 1-2 Fleetwood

Ashley Eastham's header has put Fleetwood back in front against Oxford and, for the moment, stalled the Sheffield United promotion party.

It was a booming header from Eastham. Sheffield United, by the way, are drawing 0-0 with Coventry but kicked off 15 minutes later than the rest because of crowd congestion.

    Huddersfield 3-0 Norwich

Huddersfield, and Nahki Wells in particular, are in the mood now. The striker hits the post with a shot on the turn.

It's a case of "how many?" now for the hosts.

  12. Postpublished at 21:19 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 1-0 Burton

As it stands then, Newcastle United are heading back to the top of the Championship, moving a point clear of Brighton.

Burton have two players down after a head knock, so there is a stoppage in play.

  13. Ritchie scores... this time!published at 21:17 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 1-0 Burton

Well there was no doubt about Matt Ritchie's thumping effort for Newcastle that has put them in front against Burton.

He picked up a pass from Jonjo Shelvey out on the left wing, cut inside across the box before unloading a curling drive from 20 yards beyond the outstretched arms of Jon McLaughlin to finally break the deadlock.

Ritchie of course had a penalty disallowed earlier in the game, rather mystifyingly. That goal could be crucial.

  14. Three in seven minutes for Huddersfieldpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 3-0 Norwich

Huddersfield are running riot now and Norwich have no answer!

Nahki Wells fires in a low, left-footed shot underneath Michael McGovern for the Terriers' third, and David Wagner's side are heading back up to third in the Championship.

  19. Kachunga puts Huddersfield aheadpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 1-0 Norwich

Potentially a big, big moment towards the top of the Championship as Elias Kachunga puts Huddersfield in front against Norwich.

The front man chases a long ball and, as a Norwich defender dallies, Kachunga nips in to finish first time past Michael McGovern.
