  1. CLOSE!published at 21:07 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

Ayoze Perez had a chance for Newcastle then, slamming his effort wide after he was played through on goal. Burton spared again, Newcastle experiencing a raft of emotions from anger to frustration.

Luck just not falling for the home side at the moment. Matt Ritchie the latest to be denied by Jon McLaughlin.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Norwich

Norwich have been camped in Huddersfield's half for a good two or three minutes but their only chance in that time was a shot ballooned over the bar by Yanic Wildschut.

Still no goals in the Championship this evening.

  3. Postpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 0-0 Norwich

Nahki Wells forces Norwich goalkeeper Michael McGovern into another save, this time from a stinging, swerving 25-yard shot.

Just when you thought the game might be petering out, it sparks into life.

  4. Postpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

Defender Jamaal Lascelles receives a yellow card for a challenge on Luke Varney. Newcastle seem rattled and perhaps a little too fired up by their perceived 'injustice'.

Then referee Keith Stroud accidentally blocked off Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in a promising position, which doesn't help in terms of the feelings towards him from the home crowd.

Brighter from Newcastle, Burton sharp defensively at the moment.

  5. Postpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 0-0 Norwich

A big chance missed by Huddersfield in the early stages of the second half against Norwich.

Aaron Mooy's pass to Nahki Wells sends the striker clean through but Michael McGovern stands up strong to make a save.

  10. Penalty controversy at Newcastlepublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

Maybe this was why the Newcastle penalty was ruled out? The debate will go on and on...

You probably won't hear many complaints with the decision to disallow Matt Ritchie's penalty from the Burton half of the field, as it leaves the two teams level at the break.

Take nothing away from Burton's performance in that first half - they have restricted Newcastle to a handful of chances and raised the pulse a couple of times with raids of their own.

You'd imagine they'll take a 0-0 at this stage. That said, it might be a fired-up Magpies that come out for the second half and they can expect a barrage.

  12. Postpublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Sheffield United 0-0 Coventry

Still no breakthrough for Sheffield United against lowly Coventry in League One.

Remember, they need a win and Fleetwood to lose to guarantee promotion to the Championship.

Kick-off was delayed because of crowd congestion, so they've got about five minutes of the first half to play at Bramall Lane.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

The whistle goes to a chorus of boos, after Newcastle and Burton head for the dressing rooms after a 'goalless' first half.

I say goalless, as Matt Ritchie's 'goal' from the penalty spot was chalked off by Keith Stroud and a free-kick given to Burton after Newcastle looked to have gone ahead. Cue five minutes of squabble and general confusion around St James' Park. But the decision stood.

It sparked the game into life, after a very flat first period before that. This will be an interesting second half to come.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 0-0 Norwich

Half-time at Huddersfield and it's goalless.

Pretty sure that Brighton and Newcastle will be happy if the scoreline stays like that at the end of the game, although they'll be keen for Norwich to do them both a favour against one of their rivals for automatic promotion.

Matt Ritchie penaltyImage source, Rex Features

Well it's clear that Dwight Gayle is in the box as Matt Ritchie takes the penalty... but whether that should be disallowed I don't know!?

Fifa's laws appear to suggest that a retake, external should have been given. As do the Football Association's, external guidelines.

Heading towards half-time in our two Championship games. No goals, but plenty of incident.

  17. Postpublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Sheffield United 0-0 Coventry

We've mentioned how important this evening's League One game could be for Sheffield United, and Coventry need the points just as much.

The Sky Blues, fresh from Sunday's Checkatrade Trophy final win at Wembley, need something approaching a miracle to avoid relegation from the third tier.

Taking something against the league leaders will be a start.

  18. CLOSE!published at 20:23 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

The penalty controversy has lit the touchpaper... the crowd has woken up, largely to bait Keith Stroud.

Newcastle's first move on the back of that decision was to pour forward, and striker Dwight Gayle was well denied by Jon McLaughlin in the Burton box.

  19. Postpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Huddersfield 0-0 Norwich

It's much more sedate at Huddersfield, where the hosts are creating chances against Norwich but haven't found a way past Michael McGovern yet.

Elias Kachunga is the latest to try his luck but his effort is easily saved.

  20. Chaos!published at 20:19 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Newcastle 0-0 Burton

Right, how do I explain this?

Newcastle United won a penalty, which was scored by Matt Ritchie. Nothing difficult there.

But, alas, Keith Stroud disallowed it. Then awarded Burton the free-kick, for what appears to be encroachment.

It is chaos on the field. Both coaching teams and sets of players in intense dialogue. We'll restart with a Burton free-kick on the edge of the box?! Perplexing.
