Barnsley break after a Wigan corner, but the giant figure of Dan Burn heads away as the visitors poured players into the box.

The visitors can play with freedom. Wigan are set up like a team scared of conceding the first goal.

They will have to go for it at some stage though.

Matty James has been at the heart of the best Barnsley moves. When the Tykes do retain possession they look dangerous. It's just been quite rare so far.

It's still goalless at Bury but the hosts have come closest to opening the scoring, with Tom Pope seeing his header from a corner cleared off the line by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Barnsley are suddenly having a bit of the ball, but they get careless in possession and Wigan have a sniff of goal.

Michael Jacobs plays in Gabriel Obertan but nothing comes of it. Signs of the game livening up at last.

Wow. Nearly a noteworthy chance. Ryan Kent does well out wide for Barnsley but he is unable to pick out Tom Bradshaw in the middle and there's no attempt on goal. Just another throw in.

After coming up in the League One play-offs last season, it certainly has been an excellent season for Barnsley.

Michael Jacobs has the bit of quality this match is crying out for, but the Wigan winger is unable to create something despite a promising surge.

The few moments where we look like we might get a shot on goal have come from the hosts.

Often the way when there is so much riding on it. I am not sure Graham Barrow is enjoying it.

If this game carries on like this, I suspect it would challenge it.

Barnsley have offered very little so far, but strikers Adam Armstrong and Tom Bradshaw finally combine to pose a little bit of a threat.

The former has a shot blocked. Hardly a decent chance though.

Mislaid passes, lots of throw ins with Wigan having the greater share of possession. But no chances. But the home side do have a corner.
