Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray acknowledged that he needs to find a balance in his team today.

With Rovers potentially down if they fail to beat Aston Villa the former Sky Blues boss knows he needs his team to be on the front foot.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We have to find a balance between being solid defensively and creating opportunities at the other end.

"We can't have too many attacking players on the pitch but we can't have too few on. Hopefully we get the balance right and keep a clean sheet and score a couple of goals.

"It's a 90-minute game. You don't want to leave yourself vulnerable to conceding on the counter-attack in the opening half an hour."

Head coach Garry Monk set on beating Norwich to keep Leeds United's play-off hopes alive.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk knows the size of the task facing his team today.

Back-to-back defeats have seen Leeds drop to seventh in the table and they are now three points outside the play-off with two games to play.

Monk told BBC Radio Leeds: "The players are fully aware of what is needed and the message is clear. We still have a chance.

"Whilst we still have that chance we need to give our maximum and give ourselves the best opportunity to take it to that last day. We've seen before that quite incredible things can happen on that last day."

    League Two fixtures

Hartlepool's 96-year stay in the Football League could come to an end today if they fail to beat Cheltenham and Newport record a victory at Carlisle.

Pools parted company with boss Dave Jones on Monday, following an impassioned plea by Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling.

Jones had taken just 13 points from a possible 60 and defender Matthew Bates has been charged with trying to stop the club slipping into non-league.

Elsewhere, the top three have all secured promotion already and Doncaster will be champions if they beat Exeter City and Plymouth fail to beat Crewe.

The race for the play-off is far from sewn up though with 10 teams in contention for three spots.

  11. York City relegated from National Leaguepublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

York City have just been relegated to the sixth tier of English football for the first time in their history.

The Minstermen drew 2-2 with Forest Green but Guiseley's last minute draw against Solihull Moors has sent them down.

They have also become the first team to ever suffer successive relegations from League Two to regional football.

Braintree have also been relegated on the last day of the National League season.

    Championship fixtures

With Brighton and Newcastle confirmed to be in the Premier League next season we'll be focusing today on the teams trying to avoid going the other way out of the Championship.

However, we'll also be keeping across what could be a pivotal game at the right end of the table as Leeds look to keep their play-off hopes alive with a win over Norwich.

Elsewhere, Fulham could put themselves in the boxseat for a place in the top six with a victory at home to Brentford and Reading and Sheffield Wednesday will confirm their places in the end-of-season festivities with wins against Wigan and Ipswich respectively.

Burton travel to Barnsley knowing a point will confirm their survival while Derby face Wolves and Preston host relegated Rotherham in the day's only dead rubbers.

  13. State of playpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

Bottom of the ChampionshipImage source, BBC Sport

The situation looks bleak for Tony Mowbray's side but fans of both Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest will not be breathing easily.

Blues have slumped to 21st position having been seventh when Gary Rowett was sacked and replaced with Gianfranco Zola in December.

Zola brought an end to his disastrous reign on Easter Monday but replacement Harry Redknapp could not inspire them to victory in his first match in charge, as they lost to rivals Aston Villa on Sunday.

Blues host Huddersfield, who confirmed their place in the play-offs with a midweek win at Wolves, in Redknapp's first home game.

Forest claimed a vital win over Reading last Saturday to lift themselves three points clear of trouble and victory over still-not-quite-safe QPR would likely be enough for them to stay up.

Meanwhile, Wigan *can* still stay up but they need to win their two remaining games and hope that Birmingham lose theirs and Blackburn don't win either of theirs...

  14. 1995 and all thatpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

It must seem like a lifetime ago to many Blackburn fans but it is just 22 years since Rovers were champions of England.

Managed by Kenny Dalglish and with an attack spearheaded by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton they beat Manchester United to the Premier League title in 1994-95.

The following two decades have seen far more downs than ups and if they fail to beat Aston Villa today they could be consigned to the third tier.

Good afternoon and welcome to live text coverage of Saturday's EFL action.
