Liverpool reemerge from the dressing room first, presumably their ears ringing. Any changes? Doesn't look like it.

It might have sounded like I was being harsh on Liverpool and letting Southampton off the hook. So, in the balance of interest, let's be clear: they were rubbish too.

In fact, Saints have failed to have a shot in the first half of a Premier League game for the first time since they returned to the top-flight in August 2012.  

Prince Gyimah: That first half was emotional wreck to all Liverpool fans. It's just unwatchable.

Jonny.A.Mason: This game is crying out for Adam Lallana - Klopp rarely makes early changes though.

Craig Fisher: Southampton are going to have to give Mourinho his bus keys back! Such a boring football team.

At the moment Liverpool are just taking it easy. 

Southampton are trying to stay in the game. They will be the most pleased at half-time. Jurgen Klopp won't be pleased. They've had no penetration whatsoever. 

I'd introduce Alberto Moreno, as they need that balance. 

Jurgen Klopp sprints down the Anfield tunnel as soon as the whistle goes. He's either desperate for the toilet or keen to start laying into his players as soon as they walk into the changing room.

Unfortunately we have to endure an extra minute of this tepid first half. Nothing happens.

How much stoppage time? Hopefully none.

Well this sums up Liverpool's half. James Milner is in a decent position to deliver into the area following a corner...but can't.

And here is Emre Can! Right on cue, the Liverpool midfielder pops with an effort at the Saints goal.

This time he can't illuminate a dull game with a moment of magic, his deflected effort is gathered by Fraser Forster.

Saints centre-back Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens have been the busiest players on the pitch. Seven clearances between the pair so far. Tells you everything. Make that eight. Stephens heads clear another hopeful Liverpool ball into the box.

A little better from Liverpool as they again patiently probe in the Saints half.

Is that the spark that the Reds fans need to light their team's fuse?

The Liverpool fans need something to stir them and Manolo Gabbiadini obliges by becoming the pantomime villain. The Saints striker needlessly clips Joel Matip, who is shepherding the ball out to the fury of the Kop.

Gabbiadini then refuses to talk to ref Bobby Madley as he saunters off. Madley finally gets hold of him, along with Saints skipper Steven Davis, telling them to make sure the Italian adheres to his rules.

That was a free-kick. It was off-balance but Can has kicked his standing leg.

Wayyyy, something to talk about. Dusan Tadic goes down under the lightest of tackles from Lucas Leiva in front of the dugouts, ref Bobby Madley buys it and gives a free-kick to Saints.

Jurgen Klopp is furious, slamming a water bottle into the ground. Then he breaks out into that trademark manic grin of his.

The free-kick? Wasted.
