  1. Palace in trouble?published at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 May 2017

Crystal Palace to go down? I thought they were basically safe a few weeks ago but they are currently 3-0 down at Manchester City, a result that will leave six points above the relegation zone. With Swansea in action this evening, that gap could reduce to just two points.

Follow the closing stages of the City-Palace game here or stick with us for team news for the 15:00 BST games. That should drop in the next 10 minutes.

  2. Meaningless? No chancepublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2017

    Bournemouth v Stoke (15:00 BST)

This week I have had several people suggest to me that this is a meaningless end-of-season fixture.

I would disagree vehemently. Both Bournemouth and Stoke are chasing a top-10 finish.

Mark Hughes will be desperate to halt Stoke's poor run as they try to record a fourth successive top-half position.

As for Bournemouth, it must be remembered that it was only eight years ago that they overcame a 17-point penalty to avoid relegation from the Football League.

After last week's victory at Sunderland they are almost mathematically assured of a third season in the Premier League - a magnificent achievement.

While Middlesbrough can't be relegated today, they’ll know what they have to do for a stay of execution.

    -          If Hull beat Sunderland on Saturday, Boro are relegated if they fail to win on Monday

    -          If Hull draw with Sunderland OR if Swansea beat Everton, Boro are relegated if they lose on Monday

    -          If Hull lose to Sunderland AND Swansea fail to win, Boro are safe for another week even if they lose

    Relegation battle

Middlesbrough don’t play until Monday – and can’t be relegated until then.

However, a nervous day in store for all their supporters and perhaps one birthday boy, who played 176 times in the league for the Teessiders.

You don't get too many footballers that sound like noises, do you?

I remember when I covered football in Asia and there was an Indonesian player called Bambang Pamungkas. Who else is there? Kurt Zouma? Any more?

This could be a weekend of celebration for Burnley, for whom a victory would confirm their first-ever successful negotiation of a Premier League season.

Having already earned their greatest points tally and highest number of wins, it does seem that the security of their top division status is now only a formality - but there's no better feeling than achieving it in euphoric style.

West Brom reached that similar target more than a month ago but, without a point in four matches or even a goal in five, will be keen to bring those runs to an end against a side they've lost to just twice in 16 league meetings.

I think Jermaine could play for any team in the Premier League right now. Any team. Maybe not as a starter, if he is prepared to accept a place on the bench then he could play for Manchester United. If he insists he has to play week in week out then you are looking at teams like West Ham or Bournemouth or Crystal Palace.

I don't know how fans feel about coming back to West Ham. I have heard mixed responses.

  10. Could Defoe leave Sunderland for Palace?published at 13:19 British Summer Time 6 May 2017

Could Defoe leave Sunderland for Palace?

    Where next for Jermain Defoe?

The 34-year-old is unlikely to follow Sunderland into the Championship and he will be a player in demand after scoring 14 goals this season.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has confirmed it is "possible" Defoe could leave the relegated club, while Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce says he would be "interested" in signing him for the Eagles.

Watch what both managers had to say in the above video.

If I listen to David Moyes I don’t know if I believe him.  It always sounds like bad news with David and that is not what Sunderland fans need. They need a ray of light. They need energy and I feel like David’s light is fading a bit.

However, if he could perform something close to Rafael Benitez did at Newcastle this year I think people will say David Moyes is back.

Hull this week, Swansea next. Sunderland might be down already but they could play a big part in who goes with them.

After the furore surrounding Championship play-off hopefuls Huddersfield's team selection last week, David Moyes' plans for the remaining games will be interesting.

Wouldn't Sunderland's best interests be served by a line-up of those players most likely to still be at the club next season? Moyes says he will be, external.

Hull must simply do what they've done in six of the seven Premier League home games under Marco Silva. They must win. They MUST win - before watching Swansea versus Everton, cheering the Toffees.

If they get the points to keep them in the top flight, keeping Silva would then be the challenge.

Burnley v West Brom (15:00 BST)

    Hello!

We're very much at the business end of a 37-game season (I am wiping last weekend off the records due to its awfulness) with plenty still to be finalised at the top and bottom of the table.

Manchester City are currently on course to strengthen their place in the top four while at the other end of the table Middlesbrough, Swansea, Hull City, Crystal Palace and, at a stretch, Burnley are not yet certain what division they will be in next season.

Middlesbrough and Swansea are the sides in the relegation zone at the moment with the former not in action until Monday and the latter having to wait until 17:30 BST to discover whether their situation has become that bit more precarious.

It's Saturday afternoon. There's three games left (for most Premier League teams) and (for most players) the mind, if not the body, is already on the beach.

That's not yet the case for the Hull City players, however. Their thoughts are less on Cancun and more on the KCOM Stadium, the venue for today's game against already-relegated Sunderland.

Win and they take a big step towards safety. Lose, and they could find themselves in the relegation zone come this evening.

    Tense times for the Tigers.
