And there's the whistle. England fail to take their chances on an ultimately frustrating evening at Vale Park.

It's not happening for England. Alex Greenwood with a dream cross from the left, a Hollywood ball, but it skims right through the goalmouth and is cleared. Just needed a touch...

England will wonder how on earth they have not won this game. So many golden chances. Toni Duggan comes off as Nikita Parris sprints on for a cameo.

  5. SITTER!published at 88 mins

Another sitter for England! Left-back Alex Greenwood has a totally free header at the back post, all the time in the world to place her header, and she meets it with a 50p head! Horribly wide. Nearer a throw-in than the net.

Mark Sampson has been adamant that his squad is about more than form, but if someone's in bad form it must come into his mind? Toni Duggan looked shy of confidence when given that chance.

  7. CLOSE!published at 83 mins

You've got to score those - a golden chance for Toni Duggan. Fara Williams drills in a shot from 20 yards, it squirms out of the grip of Katja Schroffenegger and lands at the feet of Duggan.

She's short on goals and it shows, as she laces it wide. All power, no placement.

Moments later Lucy Bronze hammers a cross/shot right across goal.

  8. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

    England women 1-1 Italy women

Jodie Taylor is in, goes for the first-time lob again but doesn't get enough on it this time, under-clubbed and Katja Schroffenegger is able to scramble away and turn it out.

    Into the final 10...

England now looking ragged at the back as Italy throw off the shackles a touch, sensing a win.

The Italians had barely had an attack, but all of a sudden, what a crisp strike from the Brescia forward.

1-1 is not a fair reflection of this game so far at all. It has been all England.

I did not see that Italy equaliser coming, they have hardly attacked all night. But it was another great finish and Mark Sampson has a headache on his hands. On his hands? In his head.

  12. goal

    Valentina Cernoia

Pick that one out! Melania Gabbiadini crosses from the right, the clearance is half-hearted and Italy sub Valentina Cernoia laces the ball home from 18 yards with a satisfying thunk against the base of the far post.

  13. Postpublished at 73 mins

Jodie Taylor finds space again, juggling a pass from Jordan Nobbs but she can't this time get a shot on target.

The game needed a goal from somewhere and Jodie Taylor has delivered when it mattered. What a great finish too.

    Jodie Taylor

An absolute beauty! A long ball over the top finds Jodie Taylor in space, keeper Katja Schroffenegger is in a pickle and Taylor lobs her from 25 yards, first time.

    Superb opener.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 69 mins

    England women 0-0 Italy women

There is a change - Jade Moore trundles off and Fara Williams rolls on for cap number 161. Remarkable longevity.

There's also a change at left-back as Demi Stokes is replaced by Alex Greenwood.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 66 mins

As cynical as it gets as Elisa Bartoli scuppers an England break, tugging back the shirt of Jordan Nobbs. Into the book you go.

    Still no changes for England.

She may not have taken her chances so far tonight, but Arsenal striker Jodie Taylor's movement has been excellent.

The Italians just can't stay with her. She's finding space everywhere in the box.

England put together a super move as Jordan Nobbs tees up Toni Duggan but she lacks conviction and her shot is well blocked.

Another Nobbs cross is then well cleared by Sara Gama.

England still well on top as Karen Carney whips in a dangerous low cross but goalkeeper Katja Schroffenegger is wise to it.
