Job done for Arsenal. 

They replace Manchester United in fifth place in the Premier League table. 

Next stop: fourth place?

Saints haven't given up just yet. Jay Rodriguez supplies Manolo Gabbiadini, who earns a corner.

Boufal's corner sort of bobbles in and momentarily troubles Petr Cech, before falling firmly into his grasp.  

Three added minutes. Arsenal look home and dry and up into fifth in the table. 

Ian Funnell: That should be job done. Been very patchy but the 3pts was all that mattered tonight.

Some good play from Oriol Romeu, as he tees up Sofiane Boufal, but the Saints substitute can't land his left-footed effort on target.

Olivier Giroud comes on to replace Danny Welbeck. He's done OK tonight and gets a warm reception from the travelling fans.

Dusan Tadic has gone off for Southampton, replaced by Jay Rodriguez.

Ten minutes left on the clock. 

Sofiane Boufal tries to emulate Alexis Sanchez's goal by twisting and turning past four Arsenal defenders but unlike the Chilean, Boufal sticks his shot way off target.

Alexis Sanchez hasn't looked quite right since his goal. Is he injured? Or just wasting time at every possible moment? The referee has noticed his lethargy and is telling him he's going to add it on at the end. This doesn't seem to speed him up...

The ball bounces about the Arsenal box and Shane Long tries to get contact but Gunners defence scramble clear.

Sofiane Boufal goes down under a heavy challenge from Mesut Ozil and he gets a yellow for it. Free-kick Southampton...it comes to nothing. 

Saints press again and Maya Yoshida gets some force on a header but it's easily collected by Petr Cech.

A brilliant ball in from Ryan Bertrand. It swerves in the air and lands kindly for James Ward-Prowse but his header is off-target.

That's the last action for the Southampton midfielder. Ward-Prowse is off, along with Nathan Redmond, and on comes Sofiane Boufal and Shane Long. 

Southampton have one plan at the moment - get the ball lofted over to Manolo Gabbiadini. It's not really working. 

Now Arsenal have a corner, which Mesut Ozil plays to Granit Xhaka, who drives the ball at Fraser Forster. The Saints keeper makes a solid punch away from danger.

Arsenal have suddenly upped it and that was a magnificent goal from Sanchez. 

He could have rushed it but he brilliantly decided to delay and dummy and, with his left foot, slotted it past Forster. 

Southampton have drawn 0-0 in their last two matches. We could be heading for number three here.

Mesut Ozil tries to weave into the box from the left but Southampton clear their lines and pump it up field, but only Manolo Gabbiadini is back, so he's crowded out by Arsenal defenders.
