And with that we bid you goodnight.

  2. 'We are reasonably happy'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Sweden U21 0-0 England U21

England manager Aidy Boothroyd: "In an ideal world you play really well and win the game but what you don't want to do is lose. It was a typical opening game of a tournament, both teams could have played better. Overall it was a fair result.

"We could have moved the ball quicker and attacked crosses better. A lot of the players haven't played 90 minutes for a long time and are feeling it. We are reasonably happy, made a solid start. Ben Chilwell got the ball but the directive is that you can't go off your feet.

"These are the moments which change games and we've got a terrific goalkeeper."

  3. 'Thankful to Pickford'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Sweden U21 0-0 England U21

England captain James Ward-Prowse on Sky Sports: "It was a very tough game after a long build-up. We need more confidence in our play and a little bit of luck. We are thankful to Jordan for his save and that will give him confidence.

"We were up against a good team, we dug deep and limited them to few chances. I didn't think it was a penalty, but you can't moan about it.

"Pickford pulled us put with a bit of quality. We are not happy but a draw is OK."

  4. 'Sweden killed our tempo'published at 19:01 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Sweden U21 0-0 England U21

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Sky Sports: "The main thing is not to lose the game. The first game is always tight and we came away with a draw. It's down to us to win the next two.

"I waited longer and held my ground and got to the penalty, that's what you do. Sweden killed our tempo a bit, they had a gameplan to let us have the ball at the back and now we move on to Monday.

"It's nice to get my move out of the way so I can concentrate and focus on the tournament. Everton was the best move for me."

  5. 'A good result against the champions'published at 19:00 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

England applaud their small band of supporters while Sweden acknowledge their massed ranks decked in yellow.

England will feel it's a good result against the defending champions, who will rue their squandered setback.

It's always important never to lose your opening fixture. However, England haven't won theirs in these finals since 2009.

  6. Coming up nextpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Sweden U21 0-0 England U21

England play Slovakia on Monday, with their final group game coming against Poland next Thursday.

Both players who clashed heads were OK to continue by the way. Jordan Pickford's penalty save gives England a point, a game of few positives though.

I'm sure Aidy Boothroyd will have plenty to take forwards though.

A couple more crosses in from England, easily defended yet again. Keeper Anton Cajtoft then clashes heads with Tammy Abraham and that looks nasty.

Into stoppage time. Will this be a good point for England? Time will tell.

That penalty showed that when you clip it down the middle you can look very silly indeed. Just ask Gary Lineker.

Sweden have been the better side since half-time. Neither side have impressed to be honest.

Jordan Pickford then drops a cross, a routine one too, but he gets away with it...

  12. 'Squandered chance for Sweden'published at 18:43 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

Aidy Boothroyd gave the thumbs up sign to Jordan Pickford after his penalty save.

It was a poor spot kick though. The Swedish commentator next to me slammed his fist onto the desk. Squandered chance for Swedes.

A terrible penalty! But a solid save from £30m Jordan Pickford!

England goalkeepers save penalties these days, that's what they do. Linus Wahlqvist tries to clip one down the middle but Pickford claws it away, with Carlos Strandberg hitting the rebound straight at him too.

  17. PENALTY SWEDENpublished at 79 mins

A crazy tackle from Ben Chilwell! He got a slight touch on the ball but that was a silly lunge - penalty given...

Carlos Strandberg may be on for man-of-the-match. He's made a big impression in a game where few have made any. Lewis Baker, England's number 10, has done little but does shoot well over when found on the edge of the area.

Fewer than 20 minutes remain. 0-0?

  19. 'England need fresh impetus'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

England change with just over 20 minutes to go, Demarai Gray replacing Jacob Murphy

England need fresh impetus because Swedish sub Carlos Strandberg is a handful. Excellent saving tackle from Mason Holgate when he was through
