More ref woe.......the first text refers to the push on Werner, the second to the third goal.

Should have been a penalty. Perfect opportunity to use video ref surely??

Such an obvious example of why the offside rule needs revising -- how could Warner not be considered "active" and gaining an advantage

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Germany 3-0 Mexico

No hat-trick for Leon Goretzka. He's replaced by Liverpool's Emre Can for the final half hour or so.

Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio throws the dice onto the table for the final time. He makes his third and final substitution, bringing on 38-year-old defender Rafael Marquez for Jonathan Dos Santos.

  3. CLOSE!published at 64 mins

    Germany 3-0 Mexico

Marco Fabian's first touch of the ball sees him come close to scoring, but he puts his shot into the sidenetting. Mexico have had their chances, but just haven't been clinical enough.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Germany 3-0 Mexico

Another change for Mexico as Giovanni Dos Santos, who had a good first half, is replaced by Marco Fabian. Like for like swap as the Eintracht Frankfurt man takes up position in midfield.

    Timo Werner

    Game, set and match, surely?

It's a nicely-worked goal, but also a controversial one. Julian Draxler creates it, playing the ball through the defence for Jonas Hector, who squares for Timo Werner to sidefoot home.

Werner, however, was offside when Draxler made the initial pass, but was onside for Hector's assist. Gained an advantage by being offside in the first instance?

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 55 mins

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Raul Jimenez picks up the game's first booking with a foul 30 yards from goal. Julian Draxler fancies the free-kick and bends a shot round the wall but Guillermo Ochoa is behind it all the way.

  7. No VAR to be seen?published at 53 mins

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

    Should Germany have a penalty?

Not for the first time the Mexico defence is caught napping as Timo Werner races through. He delays his shot as he gets into the area and looked to be pushed in the back by Hector Herrera. Its enough to put him off his stride and Werner drags his effort just wide of the far post.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Another chance for Mexico as Raul Jimenez cuts inside Leon Goretzka and shoots at goal. It's straight at Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

First corner of the half goes Mexico's way. It is pinged in with pace and Raul Jimenez flicks it on into Javier Hernandez's face and the ball deflects over the bar.

Germany seem to have a conveyor of raw talent and consistently perform at every major tournament. The Premiership should look long and hard at the Bundesliga as a model for the future.

    Antony in Banchory.

Germany vs Mexico - great to see Leon Goretzka doing well. Had him do wonders for my side in championship manager!

Manchester City fans might want to watch Hirving Lozano's performance. He has been linked, external with a move to Pep Guardiola's side.

Lozano has taken up position on the left flank and his first bit of action seems him try to squeeze his way through two German players. No joy.

Thomas Giles: Been to all host cities during the tournament. Everybody very welcoming. Then again, if you know RUS, this is not a surprise.

Thomas has been impressed by Russia's hosting of the Confederation Cup, bodes well for next year's World Cup? What's been your impression of tournament football in Russia so far?

Have you been watching and decided that perhaps it will be worth giving a go?

    Strength in depth indeed, Freddie.

Five of Germany's starting XI are young enough to have faced England at the European Under-21s Championship - goalscorer Leon Goretzka, Matthias Ginter, Benjamin Henrichs, Timo Werner and Joshua Kimmich.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Five corners and 10 free-kicks for Mexico. Germany are giving them plenty of opportunities from set-pieces but Mexico are not taking advantage as another Hector Herrera free-kick into the box is dealt with.

Just one minute tagged on at the end of the half.
