    Germany 2-0 Mexico

The only team that has failed to score past Germany this year is San Marino. Mexico scored in each of their group games, surely only a matter of time before they bag in this match?

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

It's turning out to be a busy end to the half for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as the Germany keeper tips Hector Herrera's free-kick over the bar.

Mexico are running the show now.

Interesting that there aren't more German players in the Prem. Could it be that money isn't everything? Just want to be the best they can be. Maybe that's where we are going wrong.

    Ken, Newcastle.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

You've got to put them away!

Giovanni Dos Santos plays a low ball into the area and it flicks up off Joshua Kimmich's boot and into Javier Hernandez's path. The former Manchester United forward has just the goalkeeper to beat but flicks his shot over the bar from point-blank range.

Best chance so far for Mexico. They will be kicking themselves if they don't get a goal back before the break.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

The Dos Santos brothers again in the thick of things, but Marc-Andre Ter Stegen foils then both.

First, Giovanni Dos Santos springs the offside trap and tries to place a shot into the far corner, Ter Stegen sticks out a boot and the Germany keeper is up quickly to deny Jonathan Dos Santos' improvised header.

A header, when a shot might have been a much better option.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

A rare error by Julian Draxler gifts possession to Giovanni Dos Santos just outside the Germany area, the Mexican fans urge him to shoot which he duly does, but sweeps his shot wide.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

There's good pace to Mexico's attack. They are always looking to keep the ball moving and are forcing Germany further and further back now. Javier Hernandez is even able to get inside the opposition box but he's a little rusty there as he strays offside when Miguel Layun crosses.

The Dos Santos brothers almost combine to pull one back for Mexico.

Gio Dos Santos, once of Tottenham, floats the ball over the top for Jonathan Dos Santos but Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is wise to the move and races off his line to claim the ball first.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Miguel Layun's delivery once again gives Germany something to think about as he fires the ball in from the right, once again towards the far post. A German defender is taking no chances as he knocks it behind for a corner.

Better from Mexico now although to be fair they have always looked OK going forward. It's their defending that is cause for concern.

Better from Mexico as Miguel Layun knocks in a deep cross from the right towards the far post, but it is just over Oswaldo Alanis' head.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Javier Hernandez may say he has adapted his game to be a footballer and not just a goalscorer but he still carriers a decent threat in front of goal. He has three goals in six international appearances in 2017 but far too often in this game he is having to drop deep to help his side's defence.

What are the Mexico defence playing at? There's a gap in their defence so big you could park a plane in there - and Timo Werner duly spies an opportunity.

He races into the space as Benjamin Henrichs plays a pass from out wide into his team-mate's path. Werner is through on goal but strikes his shot straight at the Mexico keeper. Should have been 3-0.

    Germany 2-0 Mexico

Leon Goretzka is back cleaning up inside his own area now as he pinches the ball from the feet of Javier Aquino as the Mexican midfielder runs along the edge of the area.

Mexico may be 2-0 down but there's a long, long way to go in this game.

Leon Goretzka was a player in demand before this game and his two goals is only going to attract further interest.

The 22-year-old Schalke midfielder has been linked, external with Bayern Munich and Arsenal recently.

All or nothing for Mexico now. They've got to get themselves back into this game and they try to respond by winning the game's first corner, but Germany deal with Raul Jimenez's delivery.

What did I say about lots of goals in this tie?

Leon Goretzka doubles Germany's advantage barely two minutes after opening the scoring as this time Hector Herrera is caught out of position, leaving Goretzka with space to sidefoot home from inside the box.

This could get messy for Mexico.

Perfect start for Germany as Leon Goretzka sweeps his side ahead. Mexico are all over the shop as they give the ball away too easily again and Gorezka has acres of space to drive in from outside the box.

Mexico, not for the first time in this tournament, are behind.
