Andrew Robertson has given Liverpool balance. He has put in four or five very good crosses but Liverpool haven't had that many attackers in the Palace penalty area.

Liverpool have dominated possession and have wasted two really good chances - both made from the boot of debutant Andrew Robertson.

  5. 'Very ordinary'published at 15:51 British Summer Time 19 August 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It has been a very ordinary game. Liverpool started quite brightly but Palace haven't been in too much danger. They have been extremely committed and had one chance themselves.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 19 August 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

A frustrating half for Liverpool comes to an end. Palace will be happy with this - they've bounced back well after last week's heavy home defeat to Huddersfield.

  7. CLOSE!published at 41 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

Chances at both ends in the space of a few seconds.

First, Roberto Firmino stings the hands of Wayne Hennessey with a thumping angled strike from outside the area.

Palace storm up the other end and Jason Puncheon lets fly from inside the Liverpool area but Simon Mignolet beats it away.

Suddenly, this game has come alive.

Liverpool are starting to get into wide positions but the problem is Sturridge and Firmino are dropping deep. They are not looking to run in behind Crystal Palace.

Free-kick to Liverpool 20 yards out.

James Milner and Daniel Sturridge are in deep discussion and take an age before the latter blasts it into the Palace wall.

This has been a solid defensive performance by the visitors so far.

  10. CLOSE!published at 15:37 British Summer Time 19 August 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

Andy Robertson is having a terrific debut.

He's just delivered another wonderful cross into the six-yard area but Sadio Mane is unable to guide it over the line.

Liverpool should be ahead. The home fans are getting frustrated.

This is scrappy with a capital S.

The good news for Jurgen Klopp is that Liverpool look more organised and solid at the back than they did at Watford last week.

Robertson looks to try and play balls into the front men. He has made a good start.

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

This game hasn't really got going. It's been stop-start all the way so far.

Daniel Sturridge is trying to make his mark and has just fired over after a beautiful turn and shot from 25 yards.

Great technique by the striker. Shame about the finish.

I think Palace will be more pleased than Liverpool given fact they were all at sea last week against Huddersfield.

The shape is better, Benteke is holding the ball up and Townsend and Puncheon look lively.

Liverpool should be ahead. Joel Matip will be haunted by that miss if the Reds don't win this.

Liverpool are favouring attacks down the left-hand side of the pitch, with debutant Andrew Robertson getting into the opposition half at every opportunity.

The former Hull full-back has made a total of 23 passes so far, 11 of which have been in Palace's half of the pitch.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

Committed start by both teams and referee Kevin Friend has been pretty busy as the tackles fly in.

First booking of the game is Jason Puncheon for chopping down Joe Gomez in full flight.

I think Matip took his eye off the ball. It looked such an easy save for Hennessey that Matip took his eye off it.

  19. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

How did Joel Matip miss that?

A delicious cross by Andrew Robertson is completely missed by Wayne Hennessey and Matip somehow heads wide when it was easier to score.

How costly will that miss prove?

Joe Gomez is available every single time. He can afford to push on to almost play as a right winger and cause Crystal Palace all sorts of problems.
