  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 64 mins

    Huddersfield 1-0 Newcastle

Brilliant ball from Mikel Merino, Paul Scholes-esque, picking out Javier Manquillo with a cross-field pinger, but the Spaniard's cut back is straight at Jonas Lossl.

The Huddersfield goalkeeper is then caught by sub Joselu in making a clearance, earning the former Stoke striker a booking.

Lossl needs the physio, the challenge wasn't that bad.

There is a lack of creativity in this Newcastle side. Ritchie has put a couple of decent balls into the penalty area but, especially with Gayle limping off, it's now clear Newcastle need reinforcements going forward.

That is the first time Aaron Mooy has stepped in from deep midfield. He has the vision to pass, make a run then receive it back. He sees Elliot's positioning and simply curled it past him.

It was a lovely finish, and the game needed that. The home side now have the momentum.

GOAL - Huddersfield 1-0 Newcastlepublished at 50 mins

    Aaron Mooy

    Huddersfield

    Beauty, absolute beauty.

We asked for quality and boy have we got it.

The best player on the pitch Aaron Mooy gets the John Smith's Stadium rocking.

He exchanges passes with Elias Kachunga on the edge of the box, before curling a sumptous strike into the far corner of the net.

Rob Elliot had no chance and Huddersfield erupts.

Newcastle threaten to launch an attack at the start of the second half, but Mikel Merino cannot get his pass right in the final third.

Defender Tommy Smith is lucky not to make contact with Chancel Mbemba when he loses the ball, flying in on the Newcastle man with studs showing.

That would definitely have been a red card if he caught Mbemba,

Oh my goodness, we almost had lift-off in the John Smith's Stadium moments before the break.

You can feel the pulse of the home fans every time Huddersfield attack and you can see them leaning forward in their seats when their team go close.

Huddersfield look like they belong in the Premier League. And it's been an impressive first half of his home debut for Steve Mounie, who has been the most threatening of the lot.

Newcastle are doing well and have stuck to their gameplan. I think Rafa Benitez will give all his players a pat on the back.

In fact, the Toon have created some of their own chances, impressive as early on they looked as though they might be overrun by the hosts.

The onus is now on Huddersfield to improve and do more to try and break Newcastle down.

It is Tom Ince who clips the corner into the box, which causes plenty of confusion among the Newcastle defenders, but they do eventually manage to scramble it to safety.
