The champions are up and running while the new boys are upsetting the odds. It's going to be a good season, I can feel it.

Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte tells BBC Sport: "We only have to think on the pitch and not to give answers to people. This moment is not easy for us but I am very happy to have this group of players because they showed me great commitment, desire and will to improve after a great season. We only need to focus on the pitch, outside does not matter for us."

Chelsea

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso: "I don't think I have struck many free-kicks better, not even in training. I am very happy for the win. There was a lot of talk in the week and it showed we are together, we worked hard and we 100% deserved the win. I decided to take the free-kick and it went well.

"We tried to more of the ball in the second half but they were pressing a lot. We were compact and it was a very good game from us.

"David Luiz did such a good job today, a very good game from him. To get the winner in front of the fans was great."

More from Antonio Conte, speaking about David Luiz: "His performance was amazing. He played with great discipline, intelligence and in a difficult game with a new system, he was amazing."

"This is a perfect response of the champions. We won the league last season, winning 30 games, and that is not easy. We lost in the final of the FA Cup. We have arrived in some problems with bans and injuries but we must be ready to work and focus on the pitch. The club is trying its best in the transfer market to improve our squad but I must be happy."

On Alvaro Morata: "He could have scored but his work was incredible. For sure he can improve a lot but he showed his physicality and his technique in a difficult game.

On Tiemoue Bakayoko: "He worked a lot in the last 10 days and I saw a lot of improvement from him otherwise I would not have started him. He can improve and adapt to our football."

Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to Sky Sports: "First of all I want to thank my players because their commitment, their desire and heart they put on the pitch was incredible in what has been a very difficult moment for us. I am very pleased with the will to fight for every ball and they showed me the desire of last season is still there.

"Our fans were incredible today to push us in every moment and a good day for us.

"Honestly, the game against Burnley we outplayed them, just look at the stats. We had 62% possession and had eight shots and created more chances despite playing with 10 men. It was a bad first half but the performance in the second half was pleasing. Today I asked them to show me spirit and they did."

Sho Rahman: Yes Spurs dominated the ball, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances. Chelsea deserved it.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to BBC Sport: "I am disappointed because we deserved more but they were very clinical with two shots on target and two goals. We dominated and we were better but if you are not clinical, you can lose like today.

"We are one step ahead than last season. We were much better in every aspect of the game than Chelsea, they were just clinical. I am not frustrated or upset I am happy with the performance of the players. We are working hard, there are plenty of games to play.

Should Hugo Lloris have done better with the second goal? "Sure, but that is football. It is about the team's performance. We were unlucky today, deserved more but we need to keep going."

On losing at Wembley again: "What can we do? What can I do? It is a perception from the media. I said before and will say it again, it is not about Wembley, it is our performance. Playing that way we can win lots of games."

Spurs could not have done much more - they created chances for themselves. But Chelsea are resolute, they dig in and that's why they're champions.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham defender Ben Davies, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is difficult when you lose the game, we felt like we created some decent chances but in the end it was not enough. Their aim was to make it difficult for us, they did do that but didn't pose much of a threat.

"It is nothing to do with the stadium. We put in a decent performance today and on another day we could have won."

Alonso's was such a good free-kick. As soon as it was awarded I noticed that it was in the area where, if he gets it over the wall, there's enough of the goal to aim at that the keeper won't be able to get near it. You can't blame Lloris' positioning, you just have to accept it.

Whereas I do think he is to blame for conceding the winner.

Chelsea's professionalism, and the way they continue to work for their manager and play well, is testament to them.

Tottenham didn't deserve this result. This wasn't the Wembley factor - Spurs will demonstrate this season that they will more often than not get it right. Just not today.

Michy Batshuayi owes this man a big pint of orange juice, or whatever it is that footballers drink. Two goals for Marcos Alonso earns Chelsea their first win of the season.

You feel for Tottenham a little bit. Spurs dominated the second half but Chelsea did a job on them. The champions were pushed back but defended really well.

When Tottenham got the equaliser you thought they'd go on to win it, but Chelsea displayed all their inner belief.

Today we saw the Chelsea of last season.

Wembley is swiftly emptying but the Chelsea fans are not going anywhere just yet. They cheer their team as Antonio Conte gathers his players to applaud their support.

It's now eight defeats, one draw and one win for Tottenham in their last 10 games at Wembley.

All over and Tottenham's first Premier League home game at Wembley ends in defeat.

For Chelsea, their title defence is up and running.
