  2. 'Unacceptable'published at 18:41 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was unacceptable for a club of our size. OK, you can come and lose a match 4-0 if you have a bad day, when you are fighting but are unlucky, but not like how it happened today.

"We were not fighting, not winning any individual battles, and we completely failed to respond to their way of playing. This is the most disappointing thing. The only positive out of the game is that we have time to respond, because it is early in the seaosn.

"I don't think it can get any worse than this. I believe we have a team who can respond to a difficult moment. With two defeats you can still win the league. If I didn't believe we could respond I would retire and not play football anymore. We have shown our ability in many games."

  4. 'Arsenal were lacking all over the pitch'published at 18:36 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    John Hartson
Ex-Arsenal striker on 6-0-6 on BBC Radio 5 live

Liverpool won every battle today for the entire game. If you get the better of your opposing man then usually the team will win. I cannot think of any area where Liverpool lost out.

When you travel to a notorious place, Anfield, mentally you've got to be prepared for a tough game, you've got to be prepared to run back, to tackle and to earn the right. Arsenal did not earn the right - they were lacking all over the pitch.

Blame Arsene Wenger all you want but if the Arsenal players cannot muster up some fight then there must be something seriously wrong at the football club.

  5. Give them betterpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

More from Arsene Wenger on Sky Sports: "The consequences are that the confidence drops, we need everyone to keep belief and focus. If some people feel as if I am the problem then I am sorry that I am the problem but we want our fans to be with us even in a losing performance like that. The only thing we can do is come back and give them a better performance.

  6. 'Difficult. Disappointing. Disastrous'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking to Sky Sports: "The result is a consequence of the performance. It was not good enough, we were beaten everywhere physically and in the end we we made it easier for them, we made unneeded mistakes.

"Mentally it was difficult. A very disappointing performance, it was disastrous. But it is not good to become too emotional after the game. There are some reasons behind it that we have to analyse but the players now go on an international break. We have done recently well in the big games. That is why today is even more disappointing."

  7. Needing more qualitypublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Tottenham 1-1 Burnley

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, talking to Sky Sports: "The feeling is not so great because of the way we conceded the last goal. That is football. It was a tough game. Difficult for us to play. We had the chance to score a second or third but we missed. Sometimes you pay.

"It is true we concede against Chelsea nd the same again today,. We need to stay calm and work hard and be more focused to the end.

"This is only the beginning of the season. It is better it happen now. The only way to fix conceding is to work hard during the week. When everyone is back from the international break we will do that.

"It is good that the next game is September. It was unlucky for him as he had lots of chances. I am not worried.

"We are working hard to add more quality to the squad. There are rumours in the media. I am confident we will get a minimum of three. We will see what happens in the next few days on players in and out."

  8. 'What a finish'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Tottenham 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, talking to Sky Sports: "I am extremely pleased. It is a difficult task coming to play Tottenham. There is a lot made of the stadium but they remain a good side.

"They got a goal from a scruffy situation but we rose after that and we were terrific.

"We needed something. Sometimes the game pans out how you want but we thought if we could keep it tight and affect it from the bench that might work for us. The fitness of my players was terrific. They were strong at the end and got the goal.

"What a finish and run from Chris Wood. Tom Heaton also made some good saves. Wood is 25, he is in a good group here and he needs to keep learning and enjoy his football.

"I think we can continue to grow. We are adding layers to the team. We still need some belief and some assurance that comes from playing in the Premier League."

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports about Philippe Coutinho:

"It is not about confidence in this situation, it is about what the owners have said. That is the situation. There is no problem like this. You can imagine, if he had been a part of this game it probably would not have been worse huh? Today we had 11 outstanding individual performances."

More from Jurgen Klopp, on the decision to rest Simon Mignolet:

"It is a completely normal decision, it is not about the performance of Simon. He won the race in pre-season. We want to have three strong goalkeepers. Simon is always spot on, always really good, a smart guy, he is a machine, he is the number one.

"But when you have three you have to give Simon a rest. He was not overly happy. He did not ask for the rest, but it is a mental rest more than a physical rest."

  12. 'Credit to the boys'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Sport: "After midweek games you have to reach the mountain immediately. You really feel it is intense, we wanted to force ourselves to be strong physically and that is what we were. We were really well organised.

"If you give Arsenal space and time you lose before the game starts so I don't think they could do a lot of what they wanted, Arsenal, and that is all credit to the boys because they worked really hard."

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

That was one of Liverpool's very best performances in a number of years. The midfield controlled the game with the pace and power of Wijnaldum, Can and Henderson combined with the pace of the attacking threat of Salah, Firmino and Mane.

It was almost perfect as a performance and it could easily have been more.

Towards the end Burnley took huge attacking risks and were pumping the ball forward, and then right at the close of the game one of those came off. And there was simply no chance for Tottenham to respond.

It's just not happening for Harry Kane at the moment, and this month of August does not seem a good one for him.

He looks though he's conscious of this August record, and he's snatching at his shots. He'll overcome this, but bring on September.

  16. 'We are not afraid'published at 18:09 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Tottenham 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley striker Chris Wood, who scored on his debut following a £15m from Leeds: "It is special because we got a great point away from home against a really good side. We are glad we have taken something. We created a lot of chances second half and deserved to take something.

"Everybody knows the character at Burnley. We all work hard. We need to take on from last season and push on.

"The Premier League is a lot different from the Championship. There are more good players who can carve you up. It is nice to be back. It is where my dreams and ambitions lie.

"We can improve on last season. It will take hard work. But we are not afraid of that."

    Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson speaking to Sky Sports: "We did very well, started well, we were solid, forced them into areas where they didn't want to be and were devastating on the attack.

"As the games have gone on we have got better and better. Our fitness levels have been brilliant, we worked hard in pre-season.

"We controlled the game everywhere really. Overall we are delighted. We have got talent, but you have to have the hard work and heart to match that, like we did today."
