Arsenal have had a couple of comprehensive beatings at Anfield in recent seasons and they followed a similar pattern to the opening 25 minutes here.

Liverpool are pulling Arsenal all over the place with pace, movement and attacking quality and at this stage The Gunners look nowhere near coping.

They need to clear their heads quickly or Liverpool will be over the hills and far away.

Craig Smith: Arsenal look half asleep. Making it look so easy for Liverpool.

Nick Clohessy: So glad Wenger got a new contract. The way he's got this Arsenal defence set up it's clear that he's not out of touch at all...

Josh Boot: Utterly pathetic from Arsenal - this club needs rebuilding from ground up. No fight, players with no passion for this club.

Arsenal are at sixes and sevens. They are all looking at each other, they don't know what their jobs are and they are giving the ball away so cheaply.

It's a great ball in and Firmino gets in-between the three centre halves before planting his header down and across Petr Cech, who gets his fingers to it but can't keep it out. And Arsenal are all over the place.

They are getting outnumbered in the middle of the park, and Ozil is not in this game at all. He needs to drop back and help out his midfield, but then there are fewer outlets for Arsenal when the play out from the back.

    Roberto Firmino

    Liverpool

    Too easy.

Arsenal try to play out from the back but Joe Gomez nips in to win the ball back.

He clips a nicely weighted cross into the centre of the box and Roberto Firmino ghosts in in-between Laurent Koscielny and Rob Holding to thump a header home.

Full deserved lead for Liverpool who have been much the better side early on.

  18. Klopp looks satisfiedpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could barely believe how Mo Salah did not put his side ahead there - an unconvincing finish allowing Petr Cech to save as a goal looked certain.

Klopp, however, seems a happy man otherwise - lots of applause from the German with hands above his head for some of Liverpool's early movement and passing.

Really should be one up though.

What a great ball by Can to the far post, and Salah simply has to score.

It was a brave and outstanding save from Petr Cech but Salah just has to commit and divert it home for the Liverpool lead.
