Tournament football, eh? Who'd be an England fan?

After a brilliant winning run through the group stages and a historic first victory over France for 43 years, the Lionesses' dream of lifting their first major trophy is over for another tournament.

The Netherlands go through to meet Denmark in Sunday's final.

Thanks for your company. It's good night from me, and good night for England.

  2. Van de Sanden on 'amazing' winpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

The Netherlands and Liverpool winger Shanice van den Sanden adds: "England has a really good squad, and we won - that's amazing. I'm really proud of all these people and the girls.

"Today was not my game, but hopefully I'll play better in the final. As long as you win it's OK however you play."

  3. An unlikely final?published at 22:08 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

So the Netherlands will face Denmark in the final in Enschede on Sunday, from 16:00 BST.

That's after the Danes beat Austria on penalties earlier this evening, plus the hosts' 3-0 win over England.

Did anyone honestly predict that line-up for the final three weeks ago? Not me, that's for sure.

The five highest-ranked European sides in the Fifa Women's World rankings are all out.

  4. 'I made some mistakes'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

England head coach Mark Sampson continues: "Over the course of the tournament, we have been one of the of best teams here. But, in tournament football, small things can make a big difference.

"I made some mistakes, for sure. I'll go away and reflect. I'll look at it all and then do a better job next time."

  5. 'The pictures speak a thousand words'published at 22:03 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

On the decision not to award England a penalty for a challenge on Lucy Bronze in the second half, head coach Mark Sampson adds: "It's difficult to see from the side, but the pictures speak a thousand words, don't they? There is contact in the box (on Lucy Bronze).

"We didn't get the decisions. But I'm incredibly proud of the players tonight.

"They've worked so, so hard over the past year."

  6. Sampson 'incredibly proud'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

England head coach Mark Sampson tells Channel Four: "We're obviously devastated but I'm incredibly proud of the players.

"Sometimes you don't get the rub of the green. The performance and the attitude was there."

  7. Dutch look towards the finalpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

The Netherlands and Liverpool winger Shanice van de Sanden speaking on Channel Four: "I cannot tell you how good this feels.

"We were confident. We had a 12th man in the stands.

"It will be a really big day (Sunday's final) but now we need to have focus."

  8. 'Important for Dutch football'published at 21:53 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Radio 5 live commentator in Enschede

This is important for Dutch football, not just Dutch women’s football. They don’t have a team in the Champions League as it stands, they are in danger of missing next summer’s World Cup in Russia, they are down in the dumps.

Frank McMorrow: Lack of quality in passing and possession tonight. Predictable long ball easily dealt with. Poor finishing as well.

Elliott Gilmore: Did better than the men on about 1% of the wage. Pride in the shirts but ran out of steam and ideas.

Alex Withington: Good tournament but could (should) have been much more. I don't think Sampson's arrogance before France helped the mindset.

  10. 'Things didn't fall our way'published at 21:49 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

England's top scorer at the Euros, Jodie Taylor, tells Channel Four: "It just wasn't our night. I don't think things went our way. They're a good team. It's disappointing but things didn't fall our way tonight.

"It wasn't meant to be. I think there were a couple that might have been penalties. A couple of calls didn't go out way tonight, but credit to Holland.

"I'm proud of every single one of us tonight. We gave it everything."

  11. 'Gutted for Fara'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

I was gutted for Fara Williams. She read the situation, was being composed in heading the ball back but miscued it. It is possibly her last tournament.

Fara Williams - who was involved in a mix-up that contributed to the Netherlands' second goal - won her 165th senior England cap tonight, extending her own appearances record.

  12. 'Let's win the World Cup'published at 21:44 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

    BBC Radio 5 live

England striker Fran Kirby on 5 live: "They had a gameplan and did it well and took their chances, credit to them. We had chances and could have had a few penalties. We are bitterly disappointed.

"We did great to get this far. We have put so much hard work in but fall short. In the team huddle we said let's go and win the World Cup in France."

  13. England go out of Euro 2017published at 21:42 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    FT: Netherlands 3-0 England

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Radio 5 live commentator in Enschede

I don’t think the Dutch were three goals better. England will look at the penalty decision in the first half, they had two cleared off the line. They had chances but overall they did not pass the ball well enough to deserve a place in the final, the Dutch did. Danielle van de Donk was the outstanding player on the night. They had outstanding performers and have been so good throughout the tournament.

Anthony Phillips: Well that was a typical England tournament performance when in matters the most.

Katherine Nickols: proud to be a fan and tonight is no exception. 17 shots, 0 goals - not our night.

Jordan Tovey: Hats off to all of the @Lionesses, external! You've done the country proud!

The Netherlands are deserved winners tonight. They have been explosive at times, played to their strengths. England were not allowed to get going.

England were favourites but they were negated. Jodie Taylor was very isolated and England just couldn't generate any momentum.

England look utterly devastated as they shake hands. They gave it everything, but were just second best tonight.

Meanwhile, the hosts are having a party. The Netherlands have reached a final in only their fourth ever major women's international tournament. Not bad.

That's harsh on England, and harsh on Millie Bright. She inadvertently diverts Lieke Martens' effort in at the near post, after England had committed players forward in the final seconds.

The Netherlands all race on to the field to celebrate, including the subs. They're through with a late, late third goal.
