"Second half, we started it well. We continued to fight.

"[Sent off Xavier Tomas will] have better games for us. He's an experienced player.

"I'm proud of the boys today. Our fitness was excellent, even with 10 men."

  4. Dons good value for win - McInnespublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 6 August 2017

    FT: Aberdeen 2-0 Hamilton Academical

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes: "They deserve so much credit for getting themselves game ready for that today.

"We all know what Hamilton are, at the very least they give you a real competitive game, they get after you and make the game quick. We needed to be ready for that and I thought we were at the start of the game.

"We scored a good goal and we passed up a few opportunities. Some of the play was really good, some of it not so good, we were a bit sloppy and over-indulgent at times, but 1-0 was a fair reflection at half-time and I thought we were good for another goal – although it didn't come until later in the game.

"I think what's clear, you can see when we're hot we're going to be really hot but I'd still like us to be a bit more mindful of doing the basics right, getting that element of control."

    FT: Motherwell 1-2 Rangers

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha was happy to start the Premiership season with a win at Fir Park and reckons it could have been more comfortable.

He told the Rangers website: “We just need 37 more [wins], it’s just the way it is and the way we need to understand.

"The most important thing was to have a good start and for us to have a good start was of course winning the match.

“I think on the overall of the game we could be talking about a different result if we had been a little bit more efficient in the last third with the chances we created."
