Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes: "They deserve so much credit for getting themselves game ready for that today.

"We all know what Hamilton are, at the very least they give you a real competitive game, they get after you and make the game quick. We needed to be ready for that and I thought we were at the start of the game.

"We scored a good goal and we passed up a few opportunities. Some of the play was really good, some of it not so good, we were a bit sloppy and over-indulgent at times, but 1-0 was a fair reflection at half-time and I thought we were good for another goal – although it didn't come until later in the game.

"I think what's clear, you can see when we're hot we're going to be really hot but I'd still like us to be a bit more mindful of doing the basics right, getting that element of control."

There's also a Dundee derby on Wednesday with Dundee hosting Dundee United.

On Tuesday, League Cup holders Celtic welcome Kilmarnock, Livingston visit Falkirk, Hibernian take on Ayr United and Partick Thistle travel to face St Johnstone.

All four of the Scottish Premiership teams that played today will be in Scottish League Cup action this midweek.

It's a quick rematch for Hamilton Academical and Aberdeen, who meet at New Douglas Park on Wednesday evening.

Also that night, Rangers host Dunfermline Athletic and Motherwell visit Ross County.

That result in Aberdeen means there were no draws in the opening round of Scottish Premiership fixtures.

The Dons join Celtic, Hibernian, Ross County, St Johnstone and Rangers in winning their opening fixture.

Hearts, Partick Thistle, Dundee, Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Hamilton Academical will hope to get off the mark next weekend.

Defending champions Celtic, with the biggest Premiership win of the weekend, start the season as they finished last term - top.

The three points stay at Pittodrie.

Last season's Premiership runners-up found Hamilton an awkward opponent but got the goals they needed.

The visitors finished with 10 men but did play better in the second half than they had in the first.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha was happy to start the Premiership season with a win at Fir Park and reckons it could have been more comfortable.

He told the Rangers website: “We just need 37 more [wins], it’s just the way it is and the way we need to understand.

"The most important thing was to have a good start and for us to have a good start was of course winning the match.

“I think on the overall of the game we could be talking about a different result if we had been a little bit more efficient in the last third with the chances we created."
