None bigger than seven-time European champions AC Milan. The Rossoneri may have fallen on hard times in recent years, but they are aiming to readdress that by splashing loads of cash over the summer.

Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes, one of the big-money signings after arriving from Porto for £33m, has put them ahead against Macedonian side Shkendija.

Elsewhere, Panathinaikos are leading Athletic Bilbao and Slovenian side Domzale are ahead against former European champions Marseille.

Cuco Martina puts in a good cross which is flapped at by Dante Stipica, Davy Klaassen is able to get a shot away but it's always rising over the bar.

Everton are already playing at a better tempo than in the last round.

    Everton 0-0 Hajduk Split

Bright start from the hosts - Ademola Lookman cuts in from the right and shoots but it's deflected over the top.

Chance from the corner too as Wayne Rooney is able to head over the top.

Hajduk captain Zoran Nizic is a very lucky man not to go in the book for dragging Wayne Rooney to the floor after Rooney had got free on the left wing.

Eyebrows were raised when Everton spent around £10m on Ademola Lookman from League One Charlton in January but inflation now means that's pocket change. It will be interesting to see how he does this season, but he's certainly a box of tricks.

A brilliant nutmeg on the right sees him fly into the Split half but Kevin Mirallas loses out.

Can they go beyond the top six this season?

Everton had one of the best transfer windows in the Premier League. Klaassen is a great addition and Pickford and Keane add stability. Still need to sign a top class striker but should aim for top six - sixth possible.

Everton were in a league of their own last season in seventh. They were eight points adrift of Manchester United but a massive 15 points ahead of Southampton below them.

Will Everton step up to the next level this season?

Everton need to try and destroy this concept of 'the top 6' this season before that becomes a really settled group. That will show progression and that Everton deserve a seat at the top table and we can push on from there. I think we need to see how we perform in the next four games against some big teams before we know how realistic this is. Would obviously love to win a cup, as I'm sure every Toffee would and always does.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored within 11 minutes of coming on as Everton reached the Europa League play-off round with a 2-0 aggregate win over MFK Ruzomberok earlier this month.

The first leg at Goodison was not one for the purists, won by a deflected Leighton Baines effort late on.

Former Everton captain Kevin Ratcliffe says Gylfi Sigurdsson is a "great signing" for the Toffees.

"It's a massive loss for Swansea but great news for Evertonians," he said.

"We have a player who creates chances from midfield and scores goals from midfield as well.

"Although £45m people are saying is a lot of money for a midfielder, he is a goalscoring midfielder and I think he will fit the bill there."

After Gylfi Sigurdsson's arrival at Everton, West Brom signed former England midfielder Gareth Barry from the Toffees for an undisclosed fee.

The 36-year-old has made 628 Premier League appearances in 21 seasons with Aston Villa, Manchester City and Everton. He needs five more to break Ryan Giggs' all-time record of 632.

Barry, who had four years at Goodison, has signed an initial one-year deal.
