    Everton 1-1 Apollon Limassol

Leighton Baines, Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson hold a conference over the free-kick. It favours the left footer but Sigurdsson takes aim, whips around the wall but it's keeper's side and a comfortable enough save for Bruno Vale.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Everton 1-1 Apollon Limassol

More extended possession without much penetration from Everton, but then Tom Davies takes on a shot from a long way out, he had nothing else on to be honest! A good hit, swerving from left to right, and it forces Bruno Vale to punch clear.

They now have a free-kick in a good spot. Leighton Baines?

    Everton 1-1 Apollon Limassol

Everton have played a few systems this season but they haven't found the one yet. Too many number 10s maybe? Something is amiss. Sandro does well this time to hold off a defender and crack off a shot from the edge of the area but it fizzes over the top.

More groans as Sandro Ramirez loses the ball cheaply on the left and then, when it's won back and played back out to him again, he runs down a blind alley and loses it. The number nine has not started too well.

AC Milan are leading Rijeka 1-0, with Andre Silva scoring his sixth European goal of the season.

Hoffenheim - whose manager Julian Nagelsmann is being linked to Bayern Munich - are 1-0 up at Ludogorets Razgrad.

Manuel Fernandes has scored a 17-minute hat-trick as Lokomotiv Moscow lead Czech side Zlin 3-0.

Move of the match. Ashley Williams pinches the ball on halfway and carries on his run, he's played in down the left and beats another man before laying it back to Wayne Rooney outside the area. Rooney uses Gylfi Sigurdsson as a shield and curls a shot around the Icelander, it looks to be bobbling into the corner but ends up a yard or two wide.

Sandro is struggling to get into the game up front as Wayne Rooney carries on with a bit of padding on that wrist, he's just had a few paracetamol too. A sore one.

Leighton Baines was just winded and is OK but Wayne Rooney may have to come off. When he tried that overhead kick a defender trod on his hand/wrist.

Swedish minnows Ostersunds continued their remarkable rise as they beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 in one of the 18:00 GMT Europa League kick-offs. They were in the fourth tier when England's Graham Potter took over in 2011.

Lazio beat Zulte Waregem 2-0, with Ciro Immobile scoring to take his tally to 12 goals in nine games this season. Nice beat Vitesse 3-0 in the same group K.

Zorya Luhansk claimed a surprise 1-0 win at Athletic Bilbao and Zenit St Petersburg beat Real Sociedad 3-1.

That was Wayne Rooney's first European goal for Everton. This is much better as Jonjoe Kenny puts in a decent ball from the right, Rooney tryies an overhead kick and Gylfi Sigurdsson hooks a shot on goal from about 12 yards but it's right at Bruno Vale.

Rooney and Leighton Baines are both now down with knocks.

That's raised morale and the volume inside Goodison. Can Everton take advantage of that route back into the game?

    Wayne Rooney

Well, Everton needed a gift to get back into this game and they don't get any worse than that! We've seen some clangers tonight but that's the worst of the lot.

Hector Yuste has the ball at right-back, he's closed down by Sandro, turns inside and plays a blind backpass which cuts out his own goalkeeper and leaves Wayne Rooney with a tap-in from a few yards out.

A massive let-off for Everton and their first effort on goal.

Mark Taylor: Tom Davies is a liability, he doesn't seem to have any self control at all. Like a mindless Roy Keane (without the genius)

Andy White: I can see Everton going out the Europa League early while they are focusing on the league. Finish 6th, back in next season.

    Everton 0-1 Apollon Limassol

Groans, jeers and whistles as Everton keep the ball in the middle third but keep on having to come back to halfway. No width. No outlet. No Lukaku.

  15. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

    Everton 0-1 Apollon Limassol

Wow, some strike that! The ball bobbles across the pitch from right to left and Limassol captain Georgios Vasiliou fancies it. He runs on from full-back, meets it on the bounce and cracks a lovely strike from about 30 yards, clean as you like but always flying just wide.

    The natives are restless.

Errors, errors, errors in the Everton side. Tom Davies now gives the ball away in a dangerous area and it leads to a free-kick just outside the box. A stunned silence from the home fans as the pocket of away supporters bounce away in the corner.

    Adrian Sardinero

A shocking error from Ashley Williams, as he gets in a muddle trying to play out from the back and loses possession. The ball is whipped in, Adrian Sardinero is ahead of Mason Holgate and while his close-range shot is saved by Jordan Pickford, the forward is able to gather the loose ball and turn it over the line.

    Everton 0-0 Apollon Limassol

Some knock from Jordan Pickford, first-time from a backpass, pinged from his own area to the penalty spot at the other end, Wayne Rooney within inches of bringing it down.

    Everton 0-0 Apollon Limassol

Slow? I mentioned that world before kick-off and you'd have to say it's been slow again from Everton. Patient, I guess you could call it. They haven't been near the Limassol goal in the opening 10 minutes.

    Everton 0-0 Apollon Limassol

Wayne Rooney is back taking the ball off his back four again. He started up front on his own at Old Trafford the other week but with Sandro in the team tonight he can go wondering. The Limassol fans are making plenty of noise but Goodison is largely quiet in a slow start.
