Andrew Ogley‏: The problem with Liverpool these days - and for a while - is that nothing is certain until the final whistle goes.

Tochukwu-Ezinwa‏: Oower of Anfield can destroy any team, be warned what you say before coming.

Tim Horgan‏: This game is bonkers. Defending prohibited it seems.

Liverpool get applauded off at half-time by their fans and deservedly so.

Emre Can, who has a year left on his contract, hasn't signed a new deal yet but has probably added a few grand with those two goals.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

A procession for Liverpool into the Champions League group stages.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45 mins

    Liverpool 3-1 Hoffenheim (agg: 5-2)

    One additional minute to play.

I don't want this half to end though.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson goes into the referee's book from a naughty, over-the-top challenge on Kerem Demirbay.

  8. GOOD SAVEpublished at 44 mins

    Liverpool 3-1 Hoffenheim (agg: 5-2)

Serge Gnabry is the go-to man for Hoffenheim attacks.

He puts a ball through to goalscorer Mark Uth, who forces Simon Mignolet into a sharp save at the front post.

    That was sneaking in.

  9. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Liverpool 3-1 Hoffenheim (agg: 5-2)

    Emre Can? No he can't.

The German midfielder, sniffing a hat-trick, curls a low shot inches wide of Oliver Baumann's left-hand post.

Sadio Mane involved in the move once again.

Jay: That there was why Liverpool were so entertaining last season. They score AND they concede. They're made for neutrals.

    Damon Spencer: Coutin-who?

Neil Harvey: At this rate it could be a 12 goal thriller

  11. CLOSE!published at 40 mins

    Liverpool 3-1 Hoffenheim (agg: 5-2)

Former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry involved again, fizzing an effort across goal and towards the back post, but it is not troubling Simon Mignolet.

    Five minutes to half time.

  12. Elsewhere around Europepublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

While the Anfield fans are being treated to a goal-fest, there does not appear to be as much entertainment in the four other Champions League play-off games going on.

There have only been two goals elsewhere - and they have both come in Steaua Bucharest's home game against Sporting Lisbon. It's 1-1 on the night, and in the tie.

CSKA Moscow, who hold a 1-0 lead from the first leg, are goalless against visitors Young Boys, while Apoel Nicosia are still 2-0 ahead on aggregate against Slavia Prague.

FK Qarabag also earned a narrow home lead last week, winning 1-0 against FC Copenhagen, who are yet to break them down tonight.

    Serge Gnabry, absolutely rapid.

The winger rips past Trent Alexander-Arnold down the right, but is then stopped in his tracks by the big, imposing Joel Matip.

    You're not going anywhere, lad.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 38 mins

    Liverpool 3-1 Hoffenheim (agg: 5-2)

Just a yellow, lucky not to be a red.

Hoffenheim defender Pavel Kaderabek treads on Sadio Mane's calf and is booked.

    A nasty challenge.

The visiting supporters then 'boo' Mane, but the home supporters respond by cheering their man and drowning out their opposite number.

    Mane loves it and applauds.

But Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner is cleared.

The recycle possession and almost bag a fourth, but Roberto Firmino's shot from close range - after being fed the ball by Mohamed Salah - is pushed out by Oliver Baumann.

Sadio Mane then tries a curler from the edge of the box, but it is straight at Baumann.

Well, Klopp was happy but he's annoyed at the goal his side just let in. He's pointing and gesticulating at his players.

Jordan Henderson comes over to the touchline and he gives him some instructions to sort it out.

One more goal for Hoffenheim before half time and Liverpool will be munching on their half time sarnies in a very, veryyy edgy manner.
