You do get situations. I remember at Spurs, ex-defender William Gallas asked for permission to go to the Super Bowl and he was allowed to miss training to do that. We don't know if City gave him permission or not.

This is an unfortunate situation, but fortunately it's not too bad. Amsterdam is not the issue. You could argue that it takes longer to get to London than a private jet to Amsterdam. Manager Pep Guardiola will talk to him and let him know that it can't happen again. He wasn't out drinking and being reckless, he wasn't locked up. It is unfortunate. It's unprofessional but players do push boundaries and I guess it was the only occasion he was able to go and see this singer.

It is huge for City. Take a marquee striker out of any big team and they will struggle, but City can cope without him. Gabriel Jesus is scoring goals and the way they play they will always score goals. It's a bigger loss to lose Benjamin Mendy than Aguero because of the attacking talent they have.

Defensively they have been shocking for a couple of seasons. The signing of Danilo could be a masterclass. At the time you did wonder why they had signed him but his versatility could be crucial for this half of the season. Fabian Delph has played well but there are always questions over his fitness.

Sergio Aguero has suffered injuries in the past at Man City but they've usually been picked up in the field of play.

This latest one is very unfortunate, to say the least, and no doubt more details will emerge in the coming weeks and days of the car crash in Amsterdam.

Anyway, City boss Pep Guardiola didn't seem too fussed about the fact his player was out until relatively late in another country two days before a match.
