Manchester United put in a dominant performance to beat a terrible Crystal Palace, who have lost all seven Premier League games this season without scoring.

Unbeaten United led within three minutes when Marcus Rashford's excellent work on the left wing ended with a cut-back to Juan Mata, who steered home from 10 yards out.

Their second came when Ashley Young crossed for Marouane Fellaini to volley home from two yards out at the back post.

Fellaini scored his second goal with a close-range header from Rashford's free-kick early in the second half.

Romelu Lukaku scored a late fourth - his 11th goal in 10 United games - by converting Anthony Martial's cross from close range.

The result takes United top for a couple of hours at least, with Manchester City visiting Chelsea at 17:30 BST. Palace remain bottom.

In the kind of dire straits Crystal Palace fans find themselves in, you need a sense of humour.

As the game headed into injury time, with still no points or goals to celebrate, the visitors came up with this.

"You only scored four, you only scored four. How rubbish must you be, you only scored four."

Palace lost 5-0 at Manchester City last weekend.

It's all over. It was so, so easy for United. Palace offered very little.

Free-kick to United but Wayne Hennessey is able to hold onto it. Looks around to play a quick pass out, but of course he has no options.

    Romelu Lukaku

He's got his goal. Romelu Lukaku flicks a header onto Ander Herrera, who plays in Anthony Martial down the left. Martial squares it and Lukaku is there to smash in his 11th goal in 10 appearances for United.

Marouane Fellaini is down - presumably with cramp. A bit of help from a team-mate and he continues.

United are going to fall short of City's 5-0 win against the same opposition a week ago.

Almost 4-0 again (again). Ander Herrera slides a pass through to fellow substitute Anthony Martial but keeper Wayne Hennessey makes himself big to keep the ball out with his chest.

The ball almost breaks for Marouane Fellaini for his hat-trick chance, but Palace clear.

A stat Palace fans won't want to read.

Eight of Manchester United’s 17 Premier League goals before today have arrived in the final 10 minutes of matches (47.1%) – as it stands, this is the highest proportion by any team in any single Premier League season.

Andros Townsend whips in a free-kick which goes past everyone and narrowly wide. Palace fans would probably celebrate a goal like a winner now.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

The final change of the game. Juan Mata, who marked his 200th Premier League appearance with the first goal, comes off to a great ovation. Fellow Spaniard Ander Herrera replaces him.

It was hard not to feel sorry for Roy Hodgson as he stood next to Jesse Lingard as the Manchester United man was waiting to come on.

Hodgson was the first man to call Lingard into an England squad, for the game against France in November 2015.

Since then, Lingard has scored the winner in an FA Cup final and also been involved in EFL Cup and Europa League-winning squads.

Hodgson resigned as England boss in the wake of the Euro 2016 debacle and must now somehow steer Palace's wreckage of a season to safety.

Crystal Palace bring on 24-year-old striker Freddie Ladapo - their only fit centre-forward - for his debut. The former non-league striker replaces Bakary Sako.

You would bet a lot of money on Romelu Lukaku making it 4-0 here. He gets the ball 16 yards out, sends keeper Wayne Hennessey the wrong way but rolls his effort just wide. Is he going to fail to score for only the second time this season?
