  3. 'The players have been immense'published at 22:08 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wales 1-0 Austria

More from Wales boss Chris Coleman, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was one of those games were it was to and fro. Austria will feel hard done by but on the balance of the second half we were the stronger team.

"The second half is more like a performance that we expect from this Wales team.

"I just told Ben Woodburn to express himself in the last third and he knew all about his defensive duties.

"We have to do the same again in Moldova. We will be okay if we do what we did in the second half tonight.

"The players have been immense - they knew they had more to give in the second half and they did that in bundles."

  4. Coleman hails Woodburn composurepublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wales 1-0 Austria

Wales boss Chris Coleman, speaking to Sky Sports: "First half we started alright in the first 10-15 minutes but after that Austria bossed the game, we were as poor as we've been for a long time.

"We changed it around a bit and started the second half better. It was still 0-0 with 25 minutes to go, but we've got a strong bench.

"It was a great game for Ben Woodburn to make his debut in - they don't come tougher than that.

"I know his strike was fantastic but his all-round composure was great too."

If Ben Woodburn starts getting into that Liverpool side and plays like that, then Wales will have to start him, if he proves too good not to start.

Chris Coleman is sensible and will not rush him.

But he looked so comfortable out there. If he's good enough - get him in there.

Well, it is not often that Gareth Bale plays second fiddle to anyone during a Wales game. Still, I'm sure the Real Madrid forward won't complain if Ben Woodburn wants to take some weight off his shoulders.

Chris Coleman will tell his side to enjoy this result but he'll be reminding himself there are nine more points to play for and the job is not finished yet.

  9. 'Dragon on the shirt'published at 21:50 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wales 1-0 Austria

Gareth Bale, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a make-or-break game - we've had it in the past and the most important was the three points here.

"It was just grit and determination. We were off the pace in the first half but we came out after and you saw the dragon on the shirts again."

  10. 'No rest for the match-winner'published at 21:47 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wales 1-0 Austria

Ben Woodburn, speaking to Sky Sports: "The ball just came out of the air and I just tried to shoot it as quickly as I could.

"It's a great feeling, I couldn't ask for much more from the fans.

    "I won't sleep tonight."

Gareth Bale: "We won't let him sleep tonight."

Wales were looking for something special, they were looking for a hero. It came from the bench - it came from 17-year-old Ben Woodburn.

Going with an extra one in the middle after the interval made a huge difference. A wonderful evening but it all goes out of the window if Wales don't get anything from Moldova on Tuesday.

Things looking better for Wales now.

Remember that only the top team qualify for the finals automatically.

Eight of the nine second-placed sides go into the play-offs.

Wales are still on the road to Russia. They're still alive in the group. And a 17-year-old has won them the match.

How have Wales not scored again?!

Gareth Bale's acrobatic overhead in the box is palmed away by Heinz Lindner and then, soon after, Hal Robson-Kanu strikes the base of the post with a shot from range.

It might not matter though. That should be that.

All he had to do was pass and Gareth Bale would surely have scored. Hal Robson-Kanu - what a waste! Austria had better not score now.

Hal Robson-Kanu, what are you doing?!

The sub striker wins the ball high up the pitch and has chance to roll a pass in to Gareth Bale, who would surely wrap this up.

Instead, he shoots high and wide.

OK, so the party has well and truly started.

Don't take me home, please don't take me home...' We heard strains of that across several games involving Wales at the Euros in France last year and it's now bellowing out in full voice in Cardiff followed up by chants of 'super Ben Woodburn' after the 17 year old's strike just five minutes into his international debut.
