    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

It's been about a minute since the Republic had the ball. But Georgia don't do much with it and the ball is deflected into the hands of Darren Randolph.

The Irish have been slightly better than the first half but not dramatically so.

It will be a must-win game if Republic of Ireland and Serbia win. The lads should be used to that, though. We are expected to do better because of the Euros but have been drawn in one hell of a group. I don’t think second will be enough to get into the play-offs. If we are in with a chance – needing to beat Republic of Ireland in the last game – we will take that.

I don’t think we are good at being cagey. But going for it is not our style. Teams are coming and looking to counter-attack us. It is a big culture change for Wales. With the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale, teams have a game-plan against us.

I think it is going to be a draw tonight.

Glenn Whelan is nutmegged and Jano Ananidze curls a shot wide from 20 yards. It's just too easy for Georgia when they get the ball around the box.

Let's see if Glenn Whelan can add to his 10 touches of the ball in the first half. Hasn't seen it yet since the break.

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

Stephen Ward's cross is too far for Shane Long now. At least the Republic are doing some attacking - even if they're not doing a great job of it.

The Irish go straight on the attack but James McClean's pass goes behind Jon Walters.

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland's performances can sometimes be a bit questionable under Martin O'Neill but they usually get results. Irish fans will hope that he and Roy Keane will have geed up the players a bit. Maybe told them to actually get the ball and keep it a bit...

We are under way in the second half.

Having a minuscule amount of Austrian blood, I know there's nothing that says 'Austria' like a pair of leather breeches.

Over a thousand Austrians have made the trip over for tonight's game; here are just five of them in traditional lederhosen attire.

    Austria fans

If the team play as well as their fans drink then Wales are in for a tough one tonight.

In Group G, Liechtenstein are goalless away to Albania at half-time. And Finland lead Nordic neighbours(ish) Iceland 1-0 in Group I. Alexander Ring has scored their goal.

Only Shane Long in the Georgia half. Eight Georgia players in the Republic of Ireland half.

  13. 'The game's importance cannot be underplayed'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

The Welsh fans still have the faith. Tonight's game against Austria was sold out within 10 hours and its importance can't be underplayed. Neither nation can afford defeat and a draw could scupper the hopes of both. So no wonder Chris Coleman speaks of an open contest.

Wales are unbeaten in Group D and have not been behind in any of their six fixtures - but a frustrating record-breaking run of five consecutive draws mean 10 points have been dropped and the qualification equation has become more and more difficult.

At least Gareth Bale is available to resume after being suspended for the gallant draw in Serbia, but midfield resources are stretched at an inopportune time. Joe Allen is banned and question marks loom over the staying power of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Ledley.

Austria too have underachieved - level on points with Wales - but are strengthened by the return of Marko Arnautovic.

Victory would add real meaning to the Welsh visit to Moldova on Tuesday, the same night as group leaders Republic of Ireland and Serbia go head to head.

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

Probably about half of the Republic of Ireland's games can be described the same. Take the lead. Sit back. Concede. Hang on.

They'll have to be better after the break. Surely.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland hold on - just - in the one minute of stoppage time and we're level at the break.

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

The Republic have a corner. Send the big men up.

They do, and it almost pays off.

Shane Duffy gets a head to the corner and the keeper has to make a good save to keep it out. Duffy has had the only two Irish efforts on target.

  17. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Georgia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

This is unreal. The Republic just can't get anything going. Glenn Whelan for no reason hoiks a long ball up to Shane Long, and possession is lost again.

Shane Long gets the ball - about 50 yards from any other green jersey - and he loses it. Shocking,
