What a tremendous free-kick from Ward-Prowse. Davis has got on to it - that's a great start.

You couldn't ask for anything better. Now can they show their mettle and really dictate the game?

    Bingo!

James Ward-Prowse's free-kick is brilliantly taken but hits the post.

Brighton can't get a sniff of the ball at the moment. It's all Saints.

Cedric Soares and Dusan Tadic link up, and James Ward-Prowse helps them out on the right.

Eventually, Southampton earn a free-kick when Dale Stephens brings down Sofiane Boufal.

James Ward-Prowse hooks the ball in from the right, and it looks like the ball has drifted way over the byline but the referee doesn't blow.

Brighton's defence flap about a bit before clearing.

Southampton's defence play it around the back as they wait to make their maiden break forward.

They're not getting very far. They're still in their own territory.

    Brighton v Southampton (13:30 GMT)

Southampton's players are eager beavers. They're lining up in the tunnel already. Well, half of the team are.

Brighton leisurely join them, line up their mini mascots, and head out on to the pitch at Amex.

It's a gorgeous day on the south coast.

  13. 'Must not lose for Brighton'published at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

It was a great win last week away at West Ham, but it would not mean anything if Brighton don't get a result. Fourteen points from 10 games would be better than I predicted. It's a must not lose game.

  14. 'He needs to clear his mind'published at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

    Brighton v Southampton (13:30 GMT)

    Shay Given
    Ex-Newcastle goalkeeper on BBC's MOTD 2 Extra

On Southampton keeper Fraser Forster's woes this season so far: "It's more a confidence thing. He's had a difficult start. A couple of goals he'll look at and think he could he done better. I know Fraser from his Newcastle days and he works as hard as any keeper. This stage of his career - just clear his mind then he'll be fine.

"He's a hugely experienced keeper, he needs his manager to support him."

  15. Saints and scorerspublished at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

    Brighton v Southampton (13:30 GMT)

Southampton are one point and two places above Brighton in the table.

Saints go into the game as the joint-lowest scorers in the top half of the table, with eight goals.

Shane Long, who has dropped to the bench today, has failed to score in his last 26 appearances for club and country.

Meanwhile, Sofiane Boufal's winner against West Brom last weekend was his first goal in 23 Premier League games.

That goal has earned him a starting berth today.

  16. Bright at Brightonpublished at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

    Brighton v Southampton (13:30 GMT)

Brighton won the most recent meeting 3-0 at home in the Championship in January 2012 - only their second victory in the last 13 meetings in all competitions.

The Seagulls have lost just two of their last seven Premier League matches and sit 12th going into today's match.

Victory against Saints would ensure back-to-back top-flight victories for the first time since September 1982.

  17. A low-key rivalry?published at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

    Brighton v Southampton (13:30 GMT)

    Steve Wilson
    Match of the Day commentator

In a League One clash in November 2010, Southampton and Brighton fought out a goalless draw at St Mary's.

In his post-match TV interview the then-Southampton boss Nigel Adkins was asked if he thought the two clubs would be competing for the title. His response was: 'If they can keep pace with us, maybe.'

Brighton were well and truly riled, and what had been a relatively low-key south coast rivalry has had an added edge ever since.

Brighton went on to win the title that season, with Southampton promoted as runners-up. The following year there were three red cards in their two Championship meetings.

They have not played each other competitively since - but they have also not forgotten.

  18. Debut for Onuohapublished at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2017

Brighton have scored nine goals in their nine Premier League games this season, Southampton have managed eight so I don't think it's going out on a limb to suggest that this is likely to be a tight game dominated by two strong defences. The visitors will definitely miss Mario Lemina in their midfield because whenever I've watched them this season he's been excellent. And we have QPR's Nedum Onuoha making his debut on the microphone as a match summariser on BBC Radio 5 live. He should be full of the joys after QPR's excellent win over Wolves yesterday. We're on air from midday with updates on the game throughout 5 live Sport.

I like Troy Deeney but he's got himself in a situation and has got carried away. They [FA] will look at it and he will probably get banned.
