Strike! Charlie Daniels scored a screamer against Manchester City earlier this season and that's almost another one!

The left-back cuts across the ball and hits it as clean as you could ever wish to see. It swerves in, in, just wide!

Having our cake and eating it...

The one thing about Manchester City is that they know how to do food. Regularly spoilt in the press lounge and there’s so much of it that often the eyes prove to be bigger than the belly. It’s also not a packed press box so that means there’s room for seconds too.

There’s always a regular global presence here and today is no exception. Radio Romania have a seat as do Marca, Canal de Futbol, Daily Sports Seoul, Super Sports China, Sport Klub Croatia and Het Laaste Nieuws.

A 9/10 dive or not a dive at all - the pundits can't make their mind up on that Cherries penalty call.

A tale of two penalties? Eddie Howe has been making Roger East, today's fourth official, fully aware about what he thinks of those incidents at each end of the pitch.

  5. Maybe Adam Smith didn't dive after allpublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

    Mark Schwarzer

Looking at it with the naked eye we think the referee got it right, having looked at the replay it looks more like a penalty. That's how difficult a job it is for the referee.

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 34 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Southampton

And now a penalty appeal at the other end! Charlie Austin has a header pushed away, Dusan Tadic drives in a shot and it is blocked by Simon Francis.

On the arm? Yes. But Francis had turned his whole body to try and get his arm out of the way. Would have been harsh. Could easily be one pen apiece though.

  7. 9/10 divepublished at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

    Bournemouth 0-0 Southampton

    Mark Schwarzer

Had he have kept running I think he would have got a legitimate penalty but the fact is he's blatantly dived. I'd give him a nine out of 10 for the dive.

    BOOKED for diving!

Adam Smith drives into the box and goes down, referee Jon Moss is there quickly and gives the free-kick the other way!

Smith pokes it, Sofiane Boufal chops him down but Smith is booked for diving. He did throw himself into the air but the Saints player was late, and didn't get the ball.

    Who'd be a ref?

Sam Heaton: Fraser Forster without any of De Gea's fanfare has just produced the save of the season by a mile

Southampton full-back Jeremy Pied has a dig from fully 35 yards but it's always heading wide. At the other end Joshua King has too much pace for the Saints defence and wins a free-kick.

That chance has got the home crowd going, and the tempo going on the pitch too. Lewis Cook fires over from 20 yards but it's much more incisive now.

It was an excellent save, he knew very, very little about it. Forster's body weight was moving to the right side of the goal. Forster reacts and manages to flick it over the cross bar. A brilliant, brilliant save. He's had a split second to make that movement and he's done it really well.

    How has that stayed out?!

Brilliantly instinctive stuff from Fraser Forster. Adam Smith hits a low shot across goal from the right, it is turned on goal by Jermain Defoe from inside the six-yard box and Forster somehow turns the ball over the bar! He saved it with his shoulder.

Seconds later Nathan Ake heads a cross at Forster but that's much more routine.

Neither manager is looking particularly happy at the start their sides have made here. Eddie Howe has been in deep conversation with his assistant Jason Tindall while Mauricio Pellegrino strode to the edge of his technical area barking orders clapping his hands and waving his arms at his team. Both sides have been guilty of misplaced passes and sloppy errors in the first 17 minutes.

Good from Jermain Defoe, who drops off and starts a move with a one-two with Ryan Fraser, but his cross is hooked out.

We're still struggling to find any real quality, both teams have been pretty poor. The first pass has been so off and it has not allowed the game to flow.

Van Dijk was miles above anyone in the box and it was a poor header in the end. Tadic was under pressure and was coming away from the goal a bit.

  19. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Southampton

Dusan Tadic has now floated a header over the bar from another good ball in - Bournemouth are seeing more of the ball but it's the visitors who appear to have more cutting edge.

  20. De Gea one of the world's bestpublished at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

    Bournemouth 0-0 Southampton

    Mark Schwarzer
Ex-Chelsea & Leicester keeper on BBC Radio 5 live

David de Gea was outstanding yesterday. He really helped Manchester United. He was exceptional and for me he's one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Fair to say it's been a quiet opening at the Vitality stadium - the team have just been discussing David de Gea.
