Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he is having to learn how to break down defensive teams after his side's dramatic 2-1 victory over West Ham.

I don't think the builders who demolished Maine Road or Upton Park ever had this problem.

Pontiac Silverdome stadium fails to implode in Detroit

The planned partial-demolition of the Pontiac Silverdome stadium in Detroit has failed.

The stadium has been empty for a decade, and its staged demolition was due to begin with an implosion on Sunday.

But while footage showed plumes of smoke rising, the building remained standing.

Local media quoted officials as saying the stadium was "built a little too well."

Home games against Chelsea and Arsenal next for David Moyes.

  5. FA Cup reviewpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

Plenty of good action in the FA Cup this afternoon - with Crewe's fightback at Blackburn probably the pick of the bunch.

I've just watched 15 replays if the winning goal. David Moyes' critique of his defenders seems a bit harsh, it's a magic ball in from Kevin de Bruyne. If anything, someone from midfield should have tracked David Silva's run.

  7. 'A really good job'published at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

    Manchester City 2-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to BBC Sport: "For long periods I thought it was going to be our day. We didn't limit them with possession but with clear cut chances we did, and I thought we were always a threat on the break - arguably we had the best chances in the first half.

"We didn't do well with the ball at times but we stuck at it, saw it through and the boys did a really good job. The effort and the attitude has been really good - it had to be today. The games I want us to play much better but in training we have been working hard, I can't have any complaints. We just started to fizzle out after about 60 minutes but then we came again and had a great chance in the last minute to get an equaliser."

On Adrian competing with Joe Hart for a starting spot: "If you get the jersey in football you hope you can retain it. You hope that if you play well you might get another chance. That's football and I don't think that's changed."

Rob Wayte: City are more like a Fifa world 11 team, they are on a different footballing planet at the moment. Even if Utd are attack minded, rather than Jose defensive when the 2 sides meet, it's difficult to see any other outcome than a City win.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "Today was different to (the late winner against) Southampton - I did not think that was going to happen. But today since after five minutes in the second half I felt we were going to score. Our pace and pass were quicker and better, that is why we are so happy - every game is so tough and it is important to keep our momentum.

"We started well but lost our patience and couldn't find the players in position, they moved too much.

"But you have ups and downs - what is important is that in the second half it was outstanding the way we played. It means we have done 39 points in a row. That is a lot. You see how they run and how they fight, that's why we are so proud again.

"Before (next week's match against Manchester United) we have to travel to Ukraine and after think about Old Trafford. We are going to try to be who we are."

  10. West Ham deserved a draw - Moyespublished at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

Manchester City 2-1 West Ham United

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes on BBC Radio 5 live: "I have to say it was a really good effort. We defended much better today. We've worked a bit on it, we had one day where we could prepare.

"We needed our goalkeeper to play well. He got both hands to most things, I thought most of it was outside the box. I have to say we did a really good job.

"What a chance we have to make it 2-2 late on. My feeling was I thought we deserved it (to equalise). You get results in different ways and it looked as though we might have got one today. Our effort today was top. For long parts of the game we were in with a chance of getting a result."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to MOTD: "We started really well but we lost our patience. We didn't have any rhythm because Adrian was taking 30 seconds every time.

"It was similar to the last few games, in the second half I thought we would score. It was massive. They played 10 players inside the box, it was almost impossible. It's a big victory. It showed what we are.

"You have to try to solve it [when teams pack the defence]. We had two strikers in the second half and that helped, it was a big lesson for me. We created more with two.

"The pace was better, we had more presence in the box. Kevin de Bruyne playing as the holding midfielder gave us the tempo. We were much, much better.

"We spoke a lot about defending set-pieces but they are taller. It will happen again next week against United so we have to try and concede fewer set-pieces."

Will Nicholls: Surely Adrian has to be ahead of Hart in the pecking order now? The defence looks so much more reassured with him there, not to mention the fact he can actually save a football

Imer Cardona: City are good but their early season "flair" has diminished. They've been lucky against H'field, Soton and now WHam. Their luck will soon desert them. Utd still in it big time.

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are gutted we lost but we played against a really good side and I thought for long periods we frustrated them - arguably we had the best chances in the first half.

"So I'm ultimately disappointed not to take something from the game, but I'm really pleased with the players. We were always quite good in the counter, with power and pace up front, you are thinking maybe this is our day but unfortunately the chance at the end just went past the post.

"I think we should have done much better with the winning goal. If you are a centre half in that position you would head it away, so I'm disappointed we lost the ball, but we were playing a young 18-year-old centre half who did really well today."

West Ham keeper Adrian, speaking to Sky Sports: "At the end of the day it is a defeat, we don't get any points, so I cannot be happy, zero. But we troubled them, we defended well and played well on the counter attack, we had great chances to go 2-2 at the end but they are top players.

"Personally, this is my fifth season at West Ham. I do my best every time I play. I hope I have more chances to play from now. The competition is great, so for the manager the next game we don't know."

Andy: Our lowest points total after 15 games in any Premier League season, even the ones when we were relegated. Game over. Hopefully relegation this season will be the catalyst for the owners to sell, and someone actually willing to invest in the squad to come in.
