  1. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Swansea

Having made the effort for the goal, Jordan Ayew almost makes amends at the right end by meeting a cross, but his header is kept out by Simon Mignolet.

The Belgian spills it at the first attempt, but with no Swansea player closing in, can gather at the second opportunity.

You're thinking 'you can't score from there' but of course that's Coutinho's stock in trade. Liverpool have done the square root of nothing so far except for scoring one of the best goals you'll see this season.

    WOW- WEE!

First shot, first goal and what a stunner it is.

The selfless Roberto Firmino wins the ball back off Jordan Ayew and puts Liverpool on the front foot.

The Brazilian lays off to Mohamed Salah, who pops it off first time.

It reaches Phillipe Coutinho 20 yards out, the skipper-for-the-day takes a touch and curls a beautiful finish into the far corner.

    Lukasz Fabianski no chance.

It's extremely quiet and it's not just on the pitch. Swansea have set up in basically a 4-5-1.

Young Oliver McBurnie, making his full debut for Swansea aged 21, has his socks rolls down close to his ankle.

He is wearing them small shinpads we used to have back in the 90s.

    Old skool.

"When you are bottom at Christmas and without a manager, a trip to one of the top-scoring teams in the Premier League wouldn't be top of your Boxing Day 'to do' list, but that's the size of Swansea's challenge as they head to Merseyside.

"For very different reasons, recent draws withEverton,West BromandArsenalhave been a source of frustration for Jurgen Klopp and he will want more recognisable service to resume at Anfield.

"These are the fixtures that have to be won to maintain their challenge for more Champions League nights next season.

"I was at Anfield last season to witnessdefensive frailties from Liverpooland a historic win from Paul Clement's Swansea. Some things have changed from then at least."

Jurgen Klopp believes 2017 is a year where Liverpool as a club have moved forward.

That’s the key message in tonight’s programme notes.

“To have performed as we did last season in the Premier League was so important for us to demonstrate we have the quality we believe we possess. We have shown again at the start of this season’s campaign that we have kept hold of these qualities and, if anything, enhanced them.”
