Jose Mourinho has not been short of people to speak to in his technical area over the past few minutes.

First fourth official Lee Mason came over. Judging by Mourinho's reaction it was to address some complaint or other from the Manchester United boss.

Then Mourinho's assistant Rui Faria came out. Faria was talking to Mourinho as Steven Defour scored the visitors' second.

He stayed for a while before heading to the dug out.

United need some kind of alternative plan because the current one isn't working.

Marcus Rashford does brilliantly to cut into the area and make space for a shot. His effort beats Nick Pope and is heading into the bottom corner if not for Clarets skipper Ben Mee, who is in the right place on the line to hack it clear.

Ashley Young dives in on Scott Arfield, about 30 yards from goal, and doesn't get the ball. Free-kick to Burnley - and they are going to have a pop at goal...

Charlie Taylor is beaten by Juan Mata, then drags him back. That's a booking for the Burnley defender.

United just cannot find a way through Burnley in open play - their neat passing moves are fizzling out before they get inside the Clarets area, and their crosses are not good enough at present... Juan Mata just picked out Nick Pope in the area, when he had plenty of space on the left to try to find a team-mate.

Nick Pope has done fantastic. He has been waiting for his chance to get his place in the first team and he has taken it with both hands.

Chris Harper: Dear Jose Mourinho: STOP USING LUKAKU TO DEFEND SET PIECES. That's about four goals in two weeks he should have cleared.

Again, United are soon back on the attack but Burnley finally get some respite when Martin Atkinson blows his whistle for dangerous play as Zlatan Ibrahimovic goes for an acrobatic finish from another cross into the box.

Sustained pressure from United now, with a couple of free-kicks punched clear by Nick Pope, followed by a flurry of corners - with one bringing a superb Pope save from a Paul Pogba header.

Burnley survive, but they still can't clear their lines.

The Burnley fans are in fine voice and no wonder.

The last time their team went in front at Old Trafford was 27 December 1975.

On that occasion, Ray Hankin scored the opener, only for Sammy McIlroy and Lou Macari to turn the game round after half-time.

Burnley's last win here was in 1962.

Better by United. Juan Mata sees a shot blocked, Romelu Lukaku almost gets on the end of Ashley Young's cross, and then Luke Shaw brings a first save of the match from Nick Pope with a rasping shot from 25 yards out.

Close to a second from Burnley. Scott Arfield's lobbed shot beats David de Gea, but clips the top of the bar. Too much turkey for United yesterday by the looks of things so far.

Not much of a response from United so far. Ashley Young just got to the by-line and put in a low cross, but it was easily cleared. Ditto a long ball up to Zlatan Ibrahimovic - he got his head on it, but it bounced through to Nick Hope.

It was terrible, awful defending. The ball bounced on the six yard line and nobody cleared it and Ashley Barnes comes in and toe-pokes it in. Lukaku misjudged the flight of the ball and it hits him in the chest, but it was a fabulous ball in.

It's fair to say that Ashley Barnes has had an eventful start to the game. He joins Marcos Rojo in the referee's book, after clattering Paul Pogba.
