"Eddie had a dream, on minus 17," rings out around Vitality Stadium as the home fans recall the time nine years ago this week when the Cherries - hampered by points deductions and transfer embargoes - looked set to fall out of League Two until Eddie Howe was appointed as caretaker manager on New Year's Eve 2008. The rest, quite literally, is history.

A huge cheer greets the final whistle, with Howe immediately turning to applaud the supporters - and makes straight for his goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to shake his hand, before consoling some of the Everton players. It will seem a long way back to Merseyside tonight as Big Sam's unbeaten run peters out at the Premier League's smallest stadium - courtesy of its smallest player, Ryan Fraser.

On the whole the hosts get the points that their confidence and attacking play deserved.

A big win for Howe's men and for Allardyce the end of an encouraging unbeaten run since he replaced Ronald Koeman in October.

Moments after being named as the sponsors' man of the match, Ryan Fraser caps a superb display with another barnstorming run forward and his second goal of the game - albeit with the aid of a deflection.

Don't count your chickens though - anyone who remembers the 3-3 draw here two seasons ago, where Everton led 2-0 with 10 minutes left and both sides scored deep into stoppage time, will raise their eyebrows and cross their fingers as the fourth official indicates a minimum of five additional minutes.

You still sense this game could have a winner in it as Bournemouth continue to probe and Everton sit and wait to come at them on the break.

Almost a costly second of hesitancy from Ibe who is about to shoot, loses the ball, and then must grimace as Everton race on the counter attack and Gylfi Sigurdsson nearly finds an excellent position!

The home fans here aren't generally quick to boo their side or manager - but there were a few notes of disquiet at Bournemouth's second substitution, not for the decision to introduce Harry Arter, but more because the popular Lewis Cook was the man sacrificed.

In the other dugout, Sam Allardyce and his assistant Sammy Lee are right on the edge of the technical area (and sometimes outside it). With Bournemouth peppering the Everton goal, it's a nervy time for Big Sam and Little Sam.

There's no defensive entrenchment from either side here. Bournemouth continue to pour forward at every opportunity, with Benik Afobe's first touch letting him down a couple of times while Callum Wilson is engaged in a personal duel with keeper Jordan Pickford.

Everton, meanwhile, now have Wayne Rooney (England's record goalscorer, let's not forget) playing as a defensive midfielder, with Bolasie and Lennon out wide, and Gylfi Sigurdsson playing just behind Niasse up front. Get your tin hats on for the last 15 minutes.

Bolasie sends one into row Z with his second touch. His first, in fairness, sparked a nice little move in Bournemouth's box.

...and having briefly asked Yannick Bolasie to sit down, and made midfielder Tom Davies ready to come on, Big Sam has had another change of heart and it's Bolasie coming on for Gueye.

Winger Bolasie, only recently back from a year-long absence with a knee injury, is on for goalscorer Gueye.

Everton's fans have been calling for Yannick Bolasie's introduction for a good five to 10 minutes - and it looks like they will get their wish as Big Sam prepares his final substitution.

Everton are dropping deeper and deeper as Bournemouth continue to attack.

Everton take advantage of a nervy passage of play from the hosts - and Steve Cook is ruthlessly punished when he gives the ball away. What a time for Idrissa Gueye to score only his second league goal for Everton - and the away fans have found their voice for the first time in the game.

The frustration for the home supporters is that while their attacking play remains slick, their defence always looks vulnerable.

The cameras picked out David Moyes in the first half - now, during a break in play, local resident Harry Redknapp is spotted leaning across an aisle to chat to one of his old players, the injured Jermain Defoe, who he loaned to Bournemouth from West Ham a full 17 years ago.
