    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

Oumar Niasse scored twice as Everton beat Bournemouth at Goodison in September and he's just come on.

For the Cherries, Adam Smith, who was down hurt, is OK to continue.

Niall Hughes: Why, oh why did Big Sam pick three holding midfielders? He cries about lack of creativity and goals but it all relies on his team selection. Vlasic, Lookman and Mirallas are all out of the squad. Fans won't tolerate this for much longer despite being undefeated.

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

The Cherries remain on top. Their confidence from the start has been impressive given where they find themselves in the table.

Could they be the side to end Allardyce's unbeaten run at Everton?

Rooney enters the action with a cheeky word to referee Lee Probert - who must have seen a fair bit of him over the years - before kicking off the second half.

It looks like the ex-England skipper is pushing forward to support the largely isolated Dominic Calvert-Lewin, lining up centrally in a 4-2-3-1 verging on 4-4-2.

  6. Rooney to start second halfpublished at Half-time

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

Wayne Rooney is coming on for the second half. James McCarthy is the man to make way.

  7. HALF-TIME Some climb!published at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

The Cherries could climb a remarkable five places in the table if results stay as they are and they manage to beat Everton.

The live table currently has them up from 18th before kick off to 13th!

Now that would be a lovely belated Christmas gift for Howe & Co.

Everton have got a difficult January coming up, with a really tough run of fixtures, but Sam Allardyce will just take it one game at a time. He's done well since he came in, he's got them organised, and they've got a few good players coming back from injury in Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy, too.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

Lee Probert signals the end of the first half and it's the hosts who head in the much happier of the two sides, although their rotten luck with injuries goes on.

Dan Gosling seemed in some discomfort just before the break too.

They'll hope the ex-Everton midfielder is OK to carry on in the second half.

  10. Food for thoughtpublished at 46 mins

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

A penny for Big Sam's thoughts?

His side have been comfortably second best and aside from being carved open too easily by the vibrant hosts, they have created precious little themselves.

Surely the Toffees will make a change or two?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wayne Rooney involved.

Just after providing the key assist for that goal, Joshua King's afternoon is over. Benik Afobe is a like-for-like replacement up front, but King was one of Bournemouth's most influential players of 2017 - only outscored by Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku in the second half of last season as the Cherries finished ninth.

With Jermain Defoe already sidelined for a month or two, Eddie Howe may be looking for reinforcements up front when the transfer window opens.

Everton can't say that's not been coming. As they have done many times today, Bournemouth burst forward at pace and this time Wilson and King unwrapped the Toffees' defence with aplomb.

At 5ft 4ins, Ryan Fraser is the smallest player in the Premier League, but the "Wee Man" was the star turn here last season when Liverpool were beaten in a 4-3 thriller, and there may be some more Mersey misery on the cards if Everton fail to deal with the Cherries' attacking threats.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 39 mins

    Afobe for King

King did so well in the build-up to Fraser's opener but he had to pass a late fitness test to start today and has lasted just short of 40 minutes.

It seems he may have aggravated his injury and is replaced by Benik Afobe.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going to have to be very patient today by the looks of it. The service to him has been very scarce.

  17. CLOSE! Ibe tests Pickfordpublished at 28 mins

The hosts have another decent chance. Ex-Liverpool man Jordon Ibe twisted and turned before firing a fierce low effort at goal which the Everton keeper pushed behind.

You wouldn't be able to tell from the opening quarter that Bournemouth began today in the relegation zone with Everton in the top half of the table. The Cherries have bossed most of the game so far, with Scotland winger Ryan Fraser catching the eye, but their final ball has let them down at times. Plenty for the watching David Moyes - whose West Ham side host the Cherries in mid-January - to take note of.

By contrast, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has cut a lonely figure up front for Everton, living off scraps in the early stages.

Ex-Everton manager David Moyes is at the Vitality stadium today. His West Ham side have just recently played both teams so perhaps he's doing a bit of scouting.

Wonder who he could be watching?
