Today was a day in which Yorkshire's sleeping giants flexed their muscles in the Championship, with Leeds, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday all taking three points to give their seasons a little boost.

Leeds in particular showed their 2017-18 pedigree with a 5-0 crushing of Burton Albion, while the Steel City duo showed their class to overcome Sunderland and Forest respectively.

That said, it's Cardiff City who top the Championship after their draw with Fulham, but even they are managed by a man who exudes the white rose grit in Neil Warnock.

Anyway, we go again on BBC Sport's EFL coverage on Tuesday.

After his side's 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in his first match in charge, new Northampton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink told BBC Radio Northampton:

"The boys worked very hard. The application was magnificent.

"You look at your team, how they can suffer and how they are willing to suffer, and we suffered today.

"That was always going to be the case because we have only been together for a few days, and the confidence is low.

"They put their bodies on the line. I must say, it is a very good start."

Big win and a strong performance from Sheffield Wednesday gives them a second league win of the season and their first on home turf.

Goals from Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher and Kieran Lee were enough to settle it, with Ben Osborn in reply.

Wednesday looked good throughout, Forest showed flashes. Tonight was a perfect exhibition of where these two teams are in terms of their journey back to success.

Not sure how many Forest fans are still about to see Andreas Bouchalakis have a real go at testing Keiren Westwood's goal there. It was some hit. Off-target though.

Wednesday have been as tasty as Hendo's relish at times here.

Wednesday have taken the sting out of this game now, and even lively Barrie McKay's touch lets him down as Forest run aground.

It's all a bit one-paced.

Boyd of course was once the subject of a broken down transfer to Forest from Peterborough after an "inconclusive eye test".

Jacob Butterfield comes on for his debut for Wednesday, he won't be popular with the away support as a Derby player. He replaces Kieran Lee, after his goal.

What will Wednesday's approach be now? The fans will want them to go for the jugular but there may be some caution as Forest have to come out and press now.

Daryl Murphy latched onto a Barrie McKay and headed for goal but the flag was up. Disciplined line by the Owls defence.

Tom Lees got up highest to head at goal from a swirling corner but the save is a simple one for Jordan Smith.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal just watches on a little tentatively at the moment. Over the hour mark we go.

Forest get in behind again, Ben Osborn slipped Jason Cummings in but the ball is hacked away from danger by Wednesday's defence.

The home side are struggling to make the ball stick at the other end, where Steven Fletcher is being well marshalled.

They have a free-kick in a decent position now though after Kieran Lee is poleaxed by Liam Bridcutt.

Earlier, Bristol City won at Reading thanks to Aden Flint's goal on the defender's return to the Robins' side after the club rejected various bids for him during the transfer window.

Discussing whether Flint can now keep his place, with five centre-backs competing for two places, head coach Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I've got a dilemma now, because he was very good, and Nathan Baker was good, but Bailey Wright has also been very good - we sort of rested him today.

"I called Flinty before the game and said I'm going to play you in this one but it's Bailey's place to come back to. So we've got selection dilemmas, but good ones.

"We deserved [to win today], just through our ability to keep going and to press. Our defence stood strong."
