Life under new boss Simon Grayson had started fairly encouragingly following the Black Cats' relegation from the Premier League.

Unbeaten in their first three games, including an impressive win at Norwich, had brought some hope to their long-suffering supporters.

But three losses on the spin, including a 2-1 home defeat by Sheffield United on Saturday, has ramped up the pressure on the former Preston manager.

This evening, an inconsistent Nottingham Forest side pay a visit to the Stadium of Light. Three points is a must you feel.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce called Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Brentford "arguably the worst"performance of his time at Villa Park.

The 18th-placed Villans struggled against the Bees and were indebted to goalkeeper Sam Johnstone saves keeping them in the game.

Should they manage to record victory tonight they'll end a near four-year wait for a home league win in September.

The last one? A 3-2 win over Manchester City on 28 September 2013.

"We just started and there's a lot of work to do. Of course we have to enjoy the moment but we need to work much more and harder."

Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen might be downplaying his side's early season form but a victory tonight could see him manage something his 13 predecessors failed to do.

It's 27 years since Leeds last topped the second tier on their way to securing promotion to the top flight.

If they record victory over Birmingham tonight and Cardiff fail to beat Preston then Leeds will end the day in pole position for a Premier League return.

Good evening and welcome to live text commentary of Tuesday's EFL and EFL Cup action.
