Today's superb match brought down the curtain on another exciting weekend in the Championship.

League leaders Leeds held off Ipswich to record a 3-2 win at Elland Road on Saturday, while there were also wins for Cardiff and Wolves in second and third.

Meanwhile, Sunderland, beaten by the Bluebirds at home, slipped into the bottom three as their dismal 2017 continued.

FT: Sheff Wed 2-4 Sheff Utd

Sheffield United midfielder Paul Coutts told Sky Sports:

"It's massive for the city, the derby's been away for a few years so it means a lot and it's a great win for us, especially here.

"We've seen this [David Brooks' performance] in training for a while. It's great to see, he's a young lad with a bright future.

"We'll enjoy tonight, it's a massive three points. It's nice to get one over our local rivals."

It's all over and Sheffield United have done it. What a victory.

They've been absolutely excellent today and it's been an incredibly entertaining derby.

Credit to Sheffield Wednesday, they fought back with a valiant performance in the early stages of the second half, but Leon Clarke's double proved the difference for the Blades.

Not a bad return from the first Steel City derby for five-and-a-half years, eh Chris?

What a game David Brooks has had. The 20-year-old has been brilliant for Sheffield United.

Time running out for the hosts now.

    Well, well, well.

Then at the other end, David Brooks - who's having a tremendous game, by the way - shoots on goal inside the box, forcing Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood into a fine close-range save.

    It's all happening, here.

A Sheffield Wednesday corner is cleared but it falls to Barry Bannan who tries his luck from long range and he's just a few inches from hitting the target at the far left corner of the goal.

    Mark Duffy

Now that's what you call a response.

Literally seconds from the restart, Mark Duffy fires in at a ridiculously tight angle and the Blades lead again. I can't quite believe it.

Meanwhile, Wednesday replace Steven Fletcher with Jordan Rhodes.

    Lucas Joao

Oi oi, now we have a game again.

Sheffield Wednesday have come from 2-0 to level it up! Adam Reach plays a lovely ball towards the box along the ground to Lucas Joao who thunders home.

    Wow.

David Brooks has acres of space after a Wednesday attack is neutralised. He plays it to Leon Clarke on the other end of the box but he launches it high and wide.

Surely that would have finished it off for the visitors.

    Sheff Wed 1-2 Sheff Utd

They might be under pressure at the moment but Sheffield United still lead and they've just sent a reminder to the hosts that they carry a threat on the break.

David Brooks works on to a neat ball from John Fleck but he fires well over the bar from just outside the box.

Sheffield Wednesday have dominated the possession in this half but if they are to get anything from this game, they need to keep up the pressure on their same city rivals.

They're passing the ball about well so far, but can they make another breakthrough?
