Sheffield United make three changes as George Baldock, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Leon Clarke come in for Kieron Freeman, Mark Duffy and Ched Evans.

However the big news is that Billy Sharp is back on the bench after missing their last game through injury. Could he make the difference if he comes on?

Sheffield United: Blackman, Baldock, Stevens, Fleck, O'Connell, Basham, Clarke, Wright, Coutts, Carter-Vickers, Brooks.

Subs: Moore, Lundstram, Sharp, Duffy, Lafferty, Evans, Carruthers.

Sheffield United striker Alan Cork and Owls midfielder Carlton Palmer renew pleasantries in the 1993 FA Cup semi-final. The Owls prevailed 3-1 before losing to Arsenal in the final.

Both teams come into the game having enjoyed good starts to the season.

The Owls, beaten in the Championship play-offs in each of the last two seasons, are undefeated since the opening day of the season.

Meanwhile, the Blades have carried over the form that saw them seal the League One title last season and a win today would see them move back into the top six.

Overall the visitors have the slight edge in head-to-head meetings between the two, having won 45 meetings compared to the hosts' 41.

We're just a few weeks shy of the 124th anniversary of the first competitive game between these two. The score that day? 1-1.

It's been five years and seven months since these two sides last met.

Absence might make the heart grow fonder but it's also a long time for the sting of defeat to linger on.

The Owls beat the Blades 1-0 at Hillsborough on 22 February 2012 before eventually going on to pip their cross-city rivals to promotion back to the Championship. The margin? Three points.

A fact no doubt not forgotten by fans of either side...

Carlos Carvalhal says Sheffield Wednesday are together and ready for the Steel City Derby

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is going into his first Steel City derby.

Blades boss Chris Wilder has suggested that the Owls will go into the game as favourites and Carvalhal is confident his team will be able to manage the expectation.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We have pressure in all the games game. I don't feel any extra pressure than I felt in my first game two years ago.

"When you are at a massive club like Sheffield Wednesday you have an obligation to fight for three points against every opponent."

He added: "I know this is an important game. I have managed in big derbies like Sporting v Benfica and Besiktas v Galatasaray. They have a special environment.

"We must focus on the things we must do to win the game."

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is probably looking forward to this encounter even more than the fans of both sides.

The Blades fan led the team back up to the Championship last season after six years in League One.

However, he's keen for the occasion to be handled in the right manner

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The game has to be approached in the right way and in a calm way.

"We're going to compete all over the pitch and when we get the ball we're going to look to play and try and cause them a few problems.

"The players know what this game is about. It doesn't matter if it's me or Billy Sharp or people who are new here."
