  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 27 mins

    Republic of Ireland 2-0 Moldova

Out of nothing! Moldova almost score goal of the night as Sergiu Platica juggles the ball on his thigh before cracking off a shot from all of 25 yards, flying into the top corner until Darren Randolph pushes it over!

    Spain 1-0 Albania

Rodrigo has given Spain the lead over Albania.

Spain, assured of a top-two finish, will qualify if they better Italy's result. So far, the Azzurri are drawing 0-0 with Macedonia and therefore Spain will qualify if nothing changes.

Plenty of time to go though.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 23 mins

    Republic of Ireland 2-0 Moldova

Don't tell Gareth Southgate but there's a lot to be said for 4-4-2 with two big strikers sometimes. The Republic almost have a third as they win the ball back, Jeff Hendrick slides a ball into the run of Shane Long on the right of the area, he could not hit the shot any cleaner but Ilie Cebanu turns it away with a one-handed save. Superb keeping.

  4. England take early leadpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    England U21s 1-0 Scotland U21s

England's youngsters have taken an early lead over Scotland U21s and it is a sensational strike from Tottenham's Josh Onomah, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.

It was a wonderful half-volley following a corner and it looped over the head of Scotland goalkeeper Ryan Fulton.

    Daryl Murphy

Excellent goal! Wes Hoolahan spreads the play out wide, Stephen Ward's first touch is a shocker but he's able to recover and play a fine ball into the middle. Daryl Murphy has plenty to do with the header - he must be about 16 yards out when he makes contact - but he does it all, sending a powerful header back across goal and into the far corner!

  6. Bright start for Serbiapublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    Austria 0-1 Serbia

Serbia, who just need to win tonight to qualify for the group stages of the World Cup, are a goal up against Austria after just 15 minutes.

Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic was the goalscorer. An alien feeling for him no doubt.

  7. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Moldova

Brilliant play! That's top class from Callum O'Dowda as he takes a pass from Wes Hoolahan, rolls his defender around the outside and then cuts a pass back into the run of Shane Long.

Long side-foots a shot from 18 yards, passes it into the corner - he's just wide, smashing the goalkeeper's drinks bottle instead of the back of the net!

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Moldova

Another huge throw from Stephen Ward causes more panic in the Moldovan backline but this time Daryl Murphy can't hook it home. That's a massive weapon from the Burnley man.

  9. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Moldova

Callum O'Dowda hasn't scored since he left Oxford for Bristol City in the summer of 2016 but he hasn't lost his confidence, flashing a low shot into the side netting from 20 yards.

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Moldova

A good old-fashioned charge out by the Moldova defence catches four Irishmen offside at a free-kick. Not seen a team do that for ages.

The Republic are dominant so far, captain David Meyler conducting the green orchestra from his station just in front of the centre-halves.

  12. Elsewhere in World Cup qualifyingpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

Plenty of teams are in action elsewhere.

Italy host Macedonia, while Spain take on Albania in Alicante.

Serbia will qualify with victory over Austria but Liechtenstein and Israel, who also face each other, are out of contention.

Iceland, Turkey, Croatia and Ukraine can all still qualify and they are all in action tonight.

You're singing my tune Phil! That's what I think too. Crack on with it. No reason why we couldn't have Premier League games tomorrow.

It's not a popular tune, mind.

On plans to change the international calendar...

Play international and club games concurrently as they do in rugby. Chance for the whole club squads to be utilised, and gives the smaller teams a chance to compete with the top six. Also avoid player burn-out in a tournament year.
