  4. 'We have to win both of our games'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

Republic of Ireland v Moldova (19:45 BST)

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill: "Wales have won but it makes no difference, we knew that we had to win our two games. We have given ourselves different ways to break Moldova down with the team.

"We have a plan, a strategy but it comes down to players going out there and playing. Patience is a key word. Moldova are not easy to break down. Wales had to wait until the 80th-odd minute to score against them."

    Too many international breaks?

Fifa is considering introducing longer but fewer international breaks during the domestic season.

World football's governing body, which wants to find a balance between club and national team competitions, is at the start of the consultation process.

There are currently four international breaks - each lasting two weeks - during a season.

The current break is the second of the 2017-18 campaign, with others scheduled in November and March.

The dates of the international breaks are fixed until 2024, unless stakeholders - including clubs, leagues and broadcasters - agree to a change.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reception Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique receives this evening.

During their June friendly against Colombia in Murcia, a city in south east Spain, he was jeered frequently by supporters who oppose Catalan independence.

Pique says he will not be driven out of the national team by fans opposed to his public support for the Catalan independence referendum.

The 30-year-old was also jeered by some fans at a training session in Alicante on Monday and has said he will retire from Spain duty if the federation wishes.

"It is impossible to put in doubt my commitment," said the centre-back.

"I have been here since the age of 15. I consider this a family."

He added: "I am committed to maximum effort on the pitch and to demonstrate to the people I feel very proud to be in the Spain team."

  9. 'Some heroic performances'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    Georgia 0-1 Wales

Wales manager Chris Coleman speaking to Sky Sports: "The players didn't disappoint. It was a tough surface and we found it difficult at times.

"We made some great situations which we didn't always capitalise on but the commitment from the lads was great.

"Apart from the end when it flashed across the goalmouth and the header in the first-half, our boys stuck to the game plan and produced some heroic performances.

"All we can do is work hard and take care of our business. We have a huge test on Monday night against the Republic of Ireland. We have a game plan and we will see where it takes us.

"It was always going to be tight in this group and I felt it would always go down to the last game.

"Lets enjoy it. We will enjoy it even more if we do the business!"

  10. Where's the quality?published at 19:13 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

Republic of Ireland v Moldova (19:45 BST)

Wales do not have Gareth Bale, but they do have momentum at last after winning their past three group games, following five successive draws.

The Republic's form has been heading in the opposite direction, with no wins - and only two goals - in their past four matches meaning they have slipped from top spot to third.

"If we don't qualify then when we look back at where we were short, it would be making chances, especially at home," Kevin Kilbane explained.

"I think after most games, you come away saying: 'Yes we put up a fight, but where was the quality?' We have got it in this team, but they just have not been producing it."

Republic of Ireland v Moldova (19:45 BST)

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has produced something of a surprise by handing a first competitive start to Bristol City's Callum O'Dowda for their must-win World Cup qualifier against Moldova in Dublin.

Winger O'Dowda replaces suspended James McClean as he is preferred to Aiden McGeady. Horses for courses?

The other two changes from last month's defeat by Serbia are expected as Jeff Hendrick and Daryl Murphy come in for the banned Robbie Brady and injured Jonathan Walters.

I tell you what, it has been a very professional performance once again. The substitutions didn't change the game.

Ben Woodburn could have done at the end though! Maybe it was the wake-up he needed because he has performed well but he just switched off a little.

Wayne Hennessey made some good saves. These boys put the performances in for Wales. It all comes down to Monday now.
