    Slovenia 2-2 Scotland

Asked whether he expects Scotland manager Gordon Strachan to remain in charge for another campaign, striker Leigh Griffiths says: "I hope he does. I don't think there's any man better for the job.

"You've seen in the last few performances, we are a team pulling in the right direction. We're still unbeaten in 2017. I'd be delighted if he stays on."

  4. Strachan coy on Scotland futurepublished at 20:10

    Slovenia 2-2 Scotland

"You have to ask that question (about his future) but you know fine well I'm going to say this: I'm the last person to think about right now. The players, staff, fans, family - you want to make sure they're alright.

"We're looking after them at the moment and me? It's not a problem about me. I'm really proud to be their manager.

"What I do know is that, genetically, we're behind. In the last campaign, we were the second smallest, apart from Spain. So that means, we had to pick a team tonight to try to combat their height and strength; even at that, we couldn't combat it at set plays.

"Genetically, we need to look at things."

  5. 'Slovenia no mugs' - Strachanpublished at 20:15

    Slovenia 2-2 Scotland

"We've just been beaten on goal difference by Slovakia, who are excellent. And you saw Slovenia tonight, they're no mugs. They're a right good side."

  6. 'We can't change genetics'published at 20:08 British Summer Time 8 October 2017

    Slovenia 2-2 Scotland

"We were against a physically stronger side, and a side that's never let a goal in here, says Scotland manager Gordon Strachan. "The physical side, we knew set plays would be a problem - and they scored from two set plays. We can't change genetics.

"We just can't play the biggest people in Scotland. Technically, we're fine but our guys have got to work harder on the ball than say bigger lads at 6ft 2in, or 6ft 3in.

"It's an honour to be their (players) coach because I've been fortunate to be successful with other teams and get to places.

"This group of players is as good as any I've worked with."

Amy Massie: Time for a change. Same players get picked when most haven't done anything in a Scotland shirt. Fresh faces, fresh management.

Stuart Taylor: He MUST go - persistent failures

Frazer Davidson: Time for a change

EC: I'd be interested in who people would pick as their ideal manager and starting XI for the next game. Strachan failed twice so needs to go.

Ryan McMillan: He needs to go, end of.

When I said Gordon Strachan was coming up shortly I wasn't bargaining for the Slovenian head coach to take quite so long in his conference! Gordon has just poked his head into the news conference room and gestured for the Slovenians to get a move on!

  11. Strachan will think 'long and hard' about rolepublished at 19:49

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

At the end of the last campaign we didn't discuss it, the SFA didn't discuss it. There was no in-depth analysis of the performances.

I think Gordon will have to think long and hard about it [his position as Scotland manager]. Whoever comes in has a good chance with the squad of players there. The only thing I would say is, don't give me the excuse that there's nobody better. It's a negative point to put forward.

A lot of Scotland fans are debating the future of manager Gordon Strachan...

TangerineJedi: Can someone get Lee Nelson to hand him a P45?!

Andy Finlayson: Davie Moyes would do a decent job in my opinion.

Jonny O'Brien: Strachan's fault entirely. Couldn't beat Lithuania, couldn't beat Slovenia, and had the team playing like scared wee boys tonight. Spineless second half performance, and he must go.

Mike Haldane: Relief, just missed out, I can sit back and enjoy the World Cup next year.

Mick McCristall: Unfortunately Scotland fell at the final hurdle again. Slovenia were in better team tonight. Watching the game you thought they were the team who were chasing qualification.

Iain McGowan: Did we do something wrong in our past life?!

Barry McGloan: To all the Strachan leave mob...Who would you bring in? Who would do better?

Iain Bradford: Gordon Strachan you tried your best but yet again we fail. Step aside and let another manager have a crack at it. Starting with playing games against smaller nations to up our Fifa rankings.

Allan Sim: All the Gordon Strachan haters out in force, who else would do any better??

Gary Robertson: Awful performance, got what we deserved.

Gregor Smith: No guts tonight sadly.

    Colin Crosbie: Midfield were garbage.

James Shepherd: Who's gonna be the new manager?

Andrew Money: Keep Gordon Strachan I say. Not sure who would do a better job!

Jak Keith: Why's everyone against Strachan? He's not on the pitch. The players didn't play well enough performance was flat

Keith Kleinman: Second half terrible no effort.

Robert King: In the most important game for years and on the brink of something special......the players were posted missing....never turned up for the second half.....loyalty to certain players cost us.....again!

We got away with it on Thursday night [against Slovakia] and created a lot of chances and got that late goal. But I think we should've been wise enough to look and recognise what was apparent then.

I thought that Darren Fletcher was outstanding but we've shot ourselves in the foot.

It is so bitterly disappointing to go out in this manner, with the expectation and hope and optimism that surrounded this game after Thursday. It is so hard to take. It was such a pedestrian performance.
