    Slovenia v Scotland (17:00)

Slovenia head coach Srecko Katanec has announced that he is stepping down. Will his players be motivated to give him a good send-off or will they be down in the dumps after falling to fourth in Group F?

The only way the home side can move up to second place is with a win and then they need Malta to upset the odds and deny Slovakia three points in Trnava.

Even then, that probably wouldn't be enough to earn a play-off place, given one runner-up misses out from the nine European sections.

"We still have mathematical chances to qualify and as long as that stands, we'll do our best and try to win the game," said Katanec.

    Robert Russell: 2-0 Scotland

Paul Drummond: We're due a penalty in a big match.

Gavin Coutts: Slovenia haven't conceded at home in this campaign. Best chance of scoring would be a worldy free kick from Griffiths. C'mon!!!

  12. Gordon keen to purge memory of Italian Jobpublished at 15:35

    Slovenia v Scotland (17:00)

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland in Slovenia

Scotland keeper Craig Gordon says missing out on Euro 2008 a decade ago will spur him on as the team seek the win over Slovenia that would ensure a World Cup play-off.

Gordon was part of Alex McLeish's side beaten by Italy at Hampden in 2007 and Scotland have not been at a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

"I thought there might be many more opportunities to come at that stage - but there haven't been," he said.

"It is a big moment to try to grasp."

Craig Gordon is hoping for a happier outcome in Scotland's final World Cup qualifier

Scotland now know victory in Ljubljana will guarantee them second place in Group F and, crucially, that they would be one of the eight best group runners-up.

"At 34, nearly 35, it is something that might not come again," added Celtic's Gordon.

"Hopefully we can all play as if it is our last opportunity and try to grab it."

Fergus Reid: Hopefully win against Slovenia then see who we get in the play-off. Not a fan of seeding the play offs though, should just be a free for all draw.

Colm Kilbane: Hopefully Slovenia will be down since they realistically can't make the play-offs. At Hampden they were poor and I felt that in Slovenia they might open up more and we'd get more chances. It'll all come down to who Gordon Strachan selects in central midfield. We can't leave huge spaces like we did against Slovakia.

John Robson: The big worry is their defensive record at home. No goals conceded. No slouches away either. Oblak is one of the best keepers in Europe too. Records are there to be broken though, eh?
