I don't think what has happened in the last few weeks is to blame for the quality of this match so far. Both sides are just pretty much cancelling each other out.

Good work by Toni Duggan down the left, she cuts the ball back for Jodie Taylor but her shot is blocked. Jordan Nobbs then has a pop from distance but it is a routine save for the France keeper.

Still, England starting to combine well. They are looking comfortable.

What England have done quite well is that they've managed to quiet the French crowd down. I think that's what they would have wanted to do.

One niggly challenge too many by Fara Williams and the referee decides to pull her up on it, brandishing a yellow card at the England midfielder.

Jill Scott tries to make something happen as she breaks into the box on the right but she never fully has the ball under control and France eventually manage to stab away the ball from her.

The game is opening up with more than 30 minutes gone as an England corner is flicked away by a France player.

Feels like a goal is coming.

Big, big chance! France should be ahead but Siobhan Chamberlain pulls off a fantastic save to deny Valerie Gauvin.

Ines Jaurena, who has been everywhere so far, plays a delightful ball through the middle and Gauvin, in so much space, attempts to flick a header inside the far post but Chamberlain dives to push the ball behind.

Great header, great save.

My first thought was penalty but looking at Jodie Taylor's reaction afterwards maybe it wasn't.

Oohh, penalty? Jodie Taylor goes down inside the area under a challenge, nothing given.

You have to give France credit for how they are closing England down but still, England have to be better on the ball.

France dither in possession on the edge of the area and Demi Stokes strikes, winning the ball and quickly finding Jodie Taylor. The forward skips one challenge and has a glimpse of goal before another France boot comes in to poke it away just as Taylor shapes to shoot.

Andrew Tebb: Good comments re Lucy Bronze being further forward but Fara Williams surely no longer at top level.

Interesting set piece routine by the France players for the corner that follows that Valeri Gauvin chance as several of them appear to form a circle and dance around. It doesn't do a job of distracting the England players, however, as Siobhan Chamberlain catches the corner comfortably.

And as I type that, a big opportunity for France as Valeri Gauvin gets in between two defenders and shoots but Steph Houghton makes a crucial last-ditch block.

Karen Carney curls in a deep cross towards the far post but Sarah Bouhaddi is off her line to make the catch.

England starting to dominate now, though.

Nice move by England as Lucy Bronze charges forward before feeding a pass to Jodie Taylor just outside the area. The forward sprays the ball wide to Karen Carney who pings the ball back into the box for Taylor, but her control is poor and France clear.
