    Ecuador 1-0 Argentina

Angel di Maria AGAIN with a shot from range. That skids right through the goalmouth. Epic jeering and whistling from the Quito crowd.

You might beat them on this showing Sam. Argentina look like they have picked a back four at random, though Angel di Maria is up for it, shooting over from range.

Neil Leverett: Oh my word. Cat. Pigeons in Quito.

Sam Marett: ARG v ECU Watching the BBC updates in Auckland and praying we don't get Argentina in the playoffs.

Remember, whoever comes fifth in the South American group plays a two-legged tie against New Zealand with the winners qualifying for the World Cup.

    Ecuador 1-0 Argentina

Argentina are sixth, not even in the play-offs. It's a disastrous start.

But that's better, Lionel Messi finding Angel di Maria on the left and he feeds in an excellent low cross which evades everyone and goes out for a goal-kick.

    Ecuador 1-0 Argentina

That was, unsurprisingly, the fastest goal Argentina have ever conceded in a World Cup qualifier.

    Brazil 0-0 Chile

Nearly an opening goal in Brazil, but not for the hosts.

Eduardo Vargas powerfully heads at goal for Chile, who need a win to secure their place at the World Cup, but Manchester City and Brazil goalkeeper Ederson is exactly in the right place to save it.

    Who saw that start coming?!

Argentina win a free-kick at the other end though but Lionel Messi's ball in is scooped up by Ecuadorian keeper Maximo Banguera.

Ecuador are out of the running remember.

I went to Quito two years ago. The altitude played havoc. Was breathless and heavy-limbed very quickly. And That was just walking from the door to the bar.

    Romario Ibarra (1 min)

    WOW!

Argentina get off to a horrendous start as they concede inside 40 seconds! A long ball forward is nodded on by Romario Ibarra, he gets it back and slots home left footed.

    Rubbish defending. Non-existant.
