  1. goal

GOAL - France 2-1 Belaruspublished at 45 mins

    Anton Saroka

With Sweden losing in Amsterdam France are going through no matter what, but there's still a stony silence inside the Stade de France as Anton Saroka gets the better of Raphael Varane to score a very neat finish into the bottom corner and put Belarus back into the match.

    Portugal 1-0 Switzerland

This is a real test for the Swiss now. As it stands they will be into the play-offs despite winning every game until now. Harsh?

    They need a goal.

    Johan Djourou (OG)

    Hello! That's a massive goal!

Madonna is on her feet as Portugal take the lead. A brilliant cross from the left is aimed at Joao Mario, he, goalkeeper Yann Sommer and Johan Djourou all converge and the ball ends up going in off the unfortunate defender.

    Portugal through as it stands.

  4. goal

GOAL - Netherlands 2-0 Swedenpublished at 40 mins

    Arjen Robben

They only need five more! A lovely strike.

Ryan Babel pulls the ball back to Arjen Robben who lashes it into the net from 18 yards out to give Robin Olsen no chance in the Sweden goal.

Robben has two, Netherlands have two. Hope is rising in Amsterdam.

  5. Greece heading for play-offspublished at 20:25 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    Greece 1-0 Gibraltar

    Vasilis TorosidisImage source, Reuters

Good news for Greece in Group H. A goal from Vasilis Torosidis has given them the lead in Gibraltar.

Greece started the day second but need a win to be certain of staying above Bosnia-Herzegovina, who are currently drawing 0-0 in Estonia.

A Greek victory will be enough to take them into the play-offs and force Slovakia out of the play-off picture as the second-placed team with the worst record.

  6. 'The Dutch need Kane'published at 20:25 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    Netherlands 1-0 Sweden

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol on 5 live: "The Dutch team is not as good as it was. We lack structure and quality players, We need a team with Harry Kane. We are playing a 4-3-2-1 tonight, we are chopping and changing all the time which is not what we did in the past.

“We are a population of 16 million people and have one million registered footballers, we will be back in a couple of years."

  7. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Netherlands 1-0 Sweden

Should score! If the Dutch get three or four up then life could get very interesting in Amsterdam. Right-back Kenny Tete should really make it 2-0 but fires over at the far post.

Which players would / will you miss at the World Cup?

Jamie: I will miss James McClean if Ireland don't qualify through play-offs.

We're asking for a world XI of players that won't be at the World Cup. Who should make the team?

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 35 mins

    Portugal 0-0 Switzerland

    Haris SeferovicImage source, EPA

A rare Swiss break leads to a penalty shout as lone striker Haris Seferovic ends up in a heap. He's sandwiched by a couple of Portugal defenders but it's not a clear cut penalty in my opinion.

As it stands the Swiss are going to Russia remember.

  10. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Netherlands 1-0 Sweden

Nearly a second for the Dutch. Ryan Babel has a free-kick from 30 yards out and looks to catch out Robin Olsen. But the effort just creeps past the post with the keeper panicking.

The Dutch need another six goals.

  11. goal

GOAL - France 2-0 Belaruspublished at 33 mins

    Olivier Giroud

Start the car! Allez les Bleus!

A Belarus defender has a moment to forget and plays the ball straight to Antoine Griezmann, he finds Olivier Giroud driving through the middle and although he's tackled as he shoots, the ball ricochets into the bottom corner off the Arsenal man's shins. They all count.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 33 mins

    Portugal 0-0 Switzerland

    Cristiano RonaldoImage source, Reuters

The first real chance of the night! Cristiano Ronaldo goes down in a heap on the edge of the area but the referee plays a good advantage and the ball is played to Bernardo Silva on the left of the area, he hammers a shot which is well saved by Yann Sommer!

  13. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Netherlands 1-0 Sweden

The Dutch need to win by seven goals so there's no reason for Sweden to worry just yet but the home side are close to a second as Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum should do better. He's only about eight yards out but shoots wide under pressure.

Which players would / will you miss at the World Cup?

    Gareth BaleImage source, Getty Images

Amrul Choudhury: No Gareth Bale so far and to think we could be without Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez at the World Cup.

Trev: Every World Cup should have a guest team with the best players whose nations didn’t make it. This year it could be awesome.

Right, let's make up a world XI of players who will not be at the World Cup. Go.

  15. goal

GOAL - France 1-0 Belaruspublished at 27 mins

    Antoine Griezmann

Thousands upon thousands of waving Tricolores greet the goal which could seal France's place at the World Cup. A quick move from right to left ends with Blaise Matuidi playing in Antoine Griezmann, onside, and the man with the grunge haircut finds a clean finish, driving home from 12 yards.

  16. ouch!

    Postpublished at 25 mins

    Portugal 0-0 Switzerland

That's a painful one! Former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou clears the ball downfield and is caught by a lunging Andre Silva. The striker is trying to block the clearance but it's a really late, and high, tackle.

One of the weirder sentences I'll write today but up in the boxes a watching Madonna shakes her head.

Madonna, not Maradona. Her son is in the Benfica academy.

    Portugal 0-0 Switzerland

A boycott Dan? Bet you don't stick to it.

The Swiss are showing why they have done so well in this group so far, they look a good outfit and the Portuguese crowd is already growing a touch frustrated. Cristiano Ronaldo and co are yet to create anything.

Which players would / will you miss at the World Cup?

Andy White: I shall miss the Dutch fans. The future is not quite so bright if it's not orange.

Dan Nixon: I’m going to miss England at the World Cup. Even though they are going, apathy level is so high I’m not watching them.

  19. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20 mins

    France 0-0 Belarus

That Dutch goal is good news for France, who could lose tonight and still win the group as it stands.

They are piling on the pressure though as Olivier Giroud thunks a header against the bar.

Whatever your club bias, surely we can all agree that a World Cup with Messi and Ronaldo is better than a World Cup without them. Can't we?
