Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen has said the fixture pile-up his side have had "can only help Barnsley".

The Elland Road side beat Middlesbrough at home on Sunday, before losing at leaders Wolves on Wednesday.

"The schedule is badly planned for us. We haven't had any time to rest," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We could have had the Sunday game this week knowing we had played on Wednesday.

    "This can only help Barnsley."

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom knows exactly what this game means to both sets of fans.

Heckingbottom, who has been managing his hometown team since January 2016, played in this fixture for the Tykes.

"This was always my favourite game as a kid. Where I'm from you were either a Barnsley fan or a Leeds fan," he told BBC Radio Sheffield,

"We'd play out on the field behind our house and it was Leeds against Barnsley. The Leeds fans were all older and they used to kick us. They hated us and we hated them and that's how it was."

He added: "It was always rammed down your throat how big a club they are and the traditions they have.

"It's a club people love to hate."

If you're going to a game in the Premier League or EFL today, you'll see plenty of rainbows.

All 92 clubs are backing Stonewall's Rainbow Laces initiative in support of LGBT inclusivity, including rainbow-coloured captains' armbands, laces and programme adverts.

And all the corner flags will be rainbows too, like this one at Oakwell.

Both these sides lost in midweek as Barnsley went down to a late Callum Paterson goal which took Cardiff second in the table, while Leeds were thumped 4-1 at Wolves.

And it's fair to say the Whites haven't enjoyed their recent trips down the M1.

    • Barnsley have won five of their last six home league matches against Leeds (L1), scoring 17 goals in those five victories.
    • None of the 30 meetings between these sides at Oakwell in all competitions has ended goalless, with 30 goals scored in the last seven matches.
    • Leeds have lost their three away Yorkshire derbies in 2017, losing to Barnsley in January, Huddersfield in February and Sheffield Wednesday in October.
