Crystal Palace aren't going to have too many chances to get the ball into Christian Benteke today, but when they do they have to make sure there's quality in their delivery, because recently Benteke's lacked a bit of service and support, and as a result his confidence has really dropped.

Alex McLellan: I think Palace could beat Man City today. City's weaknesses are Palace's strengths - counter attacking, aerial battles and Zaha's skill in one-on-ones against centre-backs.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to BT Sport: "The positives were that we didn’t surrender and kept going (against Arsenal in the last game). When they took the lead we were playing well. We didn’t give up and fought to the end but it was a bit too late to equalise. It was disappointing when you are on a good run.

"It is more injuries than thinking about Southampton. Wed have six players we regards regulars that are out. The changes have been forced upon me rather than me thinking about them. We have to take each game as it comes and give our best performance. We want to keep how we are playing and what we are trying to do going.

"There is no magic formula. We have to defend extremely well with a keeper and back four in form. You have to work very hard to get players back when you lose it. Most importantly you have to try and score. There is a good chance they will score with the firepower they have."

Crystal Palace are missing a number of names from the squad that's done so well in recent weeks, so I think Roy Hodgson will play a midfield three, a compact trio with Jairo Riedewald as the anchor man. Palace have still got Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha in the wide areas though, and both those players do have the ability to hurt Manchester City.

  14. Lawro's predictionpublished at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2017

Crystal Palace v Man City (12:00 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

It was telling that Pep Guardiola brought on Gabriel Jesus instead of another centre-half when Vincent Kompany limped off 11 minutes into their win over Newcastle.

He had already sussed out that it was going to be one of those games where his side would be camped in the opposition half, so thought let's get another attacker on - which I thought was quite cute.

I think this game will follow a similar pattern, and I don't think Palace will be able to stop City either.

    Prediction: 0-3

As mentioned earlier, this week's opponent, former GB sprinter Darren Campbell went for 1-1.

    Optimist.

Daniel Roberts: I predict that in exactly 12 months we will all be speculating if this will be Arsene Wenger's last season, to which of course the final answer will be 'two more years'.

Yiorgos: In a nutshell: Man City will win the title by March, Jose Mourinho will leave Man United after finally realising he’s lost his magic. Mike Ashley will finally stop torturing Newcastle fans and leave. As for Stoke, West Brom and Swansea...See ya in the Championship!!

Nigel: Jose Mourinho will admit that not everything is someone else’s fault and that HE is occasionally to blame... Nah, what am I thinking!

City look to equal the record winning run in Europe's top five leagues. Bayern Munich, coached by Pep Guardiola, won 19 consecutively in 2013-14.

The victory at Newcastle was ground out.Again they'll meet determined defending. Palace are better structured under Roy Hodgson. They have pace and power in attack too. This is a tricky one for the leaders. Pep will need to bring in fresh legs.

They've won 10 of their last 11 against the Eagles and should have enough guile and class to triumph again even if they may need yet another late goal - they've already netted 24 in all competitions in the final 15 minutes of games.

    There's resilience within the brilliance.

Crystal Palace v Man City (12:00 GMT)

Roy Hodgson has made four changes for today's game, starting in goal where Wayne Hennessey comes in for Julian Speroni.

At left-back Patrick van Aanholt replaces Martin Kelly, while Jairo Riedewald comes in at right-back for Jeffrey Schlupp.

In midfield Ruben Loftus-Cheek is replaced by Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Pep Guardiola makes three changes for the trip to South London, with Eliaquim Mangala replacing Vincent Kompany in defence, and Leroy Sane getting a chance ahead of Raheem Sterling, who scored the winner against Newcastle last time out.

In attack, Sergio Aguero is replaced by Gabriel Jesus.

The big news among the substitutes is defender John Stones making the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered last month.

Liverpool away will be Man City's toughest challenge this season. Last time we beat them at there place was 2003. If we beat them I can't see us losing this season.
